its true there is weight to AJs argument, but cmon man...you cant act like the wings accidentally won a bunch of cups recently and that the sharks have had no chances because they are an expansion team. regardless of team history, the wings have taken more advantage of their shots at the cup in the past few years then the sharks and i dont see how that can really be disputed...but i would like to hear your thoughts

ya i guess my "outs" are silly things like understanding statistics and variance and how a small sample size effects them. Its cool if you want to appreciate your franchise and stuff but the people who talk about "choking" due to a few times the sharks had 10-15% in cup equity and didnt win then you just dont understand the concept that theres a lot of parity in the NHL or you dont have an even basic grasp of statistics in variance. Or i suppose someone could be intentionally obtuse.

A.J. the facts are you are on pace to have 0 cups 1,000,000 years from now. You cannot dispute this. The wings won multiple cups before and after that stretch of time. There is no reason to believe you will ever win a cup.

TBH there is a better chance your team moves cities or is contracted before you ever win a cup.

And to your statement about variance/the best team doesn't always win, tru that, tru that......but some teams just have such a huge lack of WIM that it doesn't matter, they'll never win. A classic example of a team like this is the San Jose Sharks.

im not sure that ive mentioned the word "choke" once in this thread...but i do understand what type your post is aimed at. and i also understand how hard it is to win a cup. but that still doesnt mean given the chances both franchises have had, detroit hasn't capitalized more fully. whether that is due to variance or due to the experience of their upper management and coaching staff is obv hard to tell. the fact is you cant both brag about beating a team better than you and then say that the sharks are the better team, at the same time completely negating all of detroit's accomplishments since SJ has had a franchise. If detroit were to win this series we would here things like "variance" and "sharks didnt play well" from the SJ crowd, but if SJ wins it will be nothing but boasting about how bad the red wings suck. if you dont see how this doesnt make sense i dont know what to tell you...

One of the best schedules ever for us Det fans. Only one real late game for game 1 and thats on a friday. Its so brutal being in the western conference with 10pm games during the week. Plus theres a lot of Weekend games which bodes well for watching it with close friends.

Wings in 6, Franzen and Zetterberg arent 100% but we arent beat up like last year.

Bigger chance that Detroit just disappears off a map before this happens. No worries though, we'll try our best not to let Lake St. Clair swallow you up.
