+1, great series Nut¹. LA played a lot tougher than I thought they would without Kopitar. 3 OT winners for SJ = ridiculously close.

I guess, rested Detroit is gonna be a tough series for sure, so I guess by the Wangz bandwagon playbook I should root for some terrible penalties on Vancouver tomorrow!

SJ vs. DET + VAN vs. NSH = SJ likely playing a beat-up Vancouver team in the conference finals if they get past Detroit, which will def be a tough series
SJ vs. CHI + DET vs. NSH = more favorable, I think, Detroit more likely to get grinded down in this series and I think SJ matches up better against Chicago in round 2 than Vancouver in round 3

Game notes:
4 minute minor was super standard and appropriate. player is responsible for his stick.

5 minute major call got a laugh out of me. definite 2. (Is there something in the rules about causing an injury means automatic 5 on boarding/charging type penalties?)

overall, no real complaints about the refs in the series.

Nice bounce back in game 5.
loved the performance of some of the youngsters. richardson line +TLewis. even Westgarth.

you can't be to harsh on your team, when they were able to at least compete with the sharks(they are after all pretty deep team with a lot of skilled players)
also lak missed kopitar, which is a pretty hard blow to the team...

I'm not too down on them. certain players, yes.

Kopi was certainly missed, defensively most of all it seems. He matches up so well against most any center. People scoffed when I mentioned him as a future Selke winner, but I hope people take notice of LAK team d without him.

Lak had a real chance to win this series. 2 wins were decisive. 1 absolutely blown game, and 2 other overtimes. that is frustrating.

in retrospect that 4 minute minor was called correctly, just was riding an emotional roller coaster thinking our penalty kill would do us in. In general i was happy with the reffing in this series as well, most games they let the guys play and i like that style of officiating.

dont be to down, more and more games i saw the more i really liked the kings and there players. they definitely have a lot of WIM and character and never laid down the whole series when they had a built in excuse missing kopitar, then stoll is injured in game 1 and game 2 is no problem. The person no one is talking about is justin williams who showed a lot of heart playing in this series and was defintiely a difference maker.

I like the balance of players on the kings roster. you have veterans like smyth, stoll, handzus, williams, etc. then you have young talents guys like quick, kopitar, doughty, jonhson etc. They have a really solid future ahead of them i think and im relieved the series is over.

btw i think the joe thornton criticism is pretty lame. I mean when hes not showing much emotion people say that hes unmotivated and doesnt want to win, eventhough thats how some people focus. when i saw his face light up and the jubilation he felt i thought people were going to finally see first hand how much winning means to joe but the haters always find a way to spin, this time into "arrogance". i mean gmafb here, if it was toews or someone else people would have been saying "great story, thats a GOCB that wants to win and is just a kid having fun out there."

A few years ago, one of the two terminals still rolled stairways up to the plane, straight out of the 1950s. Until the renovation, SJC was an embarrassment. Now we have a nice shiny new airport . . . and most of the major airlines have pretty much abandoned the San Jose market.

The Kings are going to be a very strong team for the next decade (barring cap issues). It wouldn't surprise me at all to see them win a Cup or two.

the kings got absolutely crushed in this series. the only thing that bailed them out was poor goaltending by the sharks, otherwise this series would have been over in 4 or 5. terry murray needs firing.

FWIW, SJC is smaller than both SFO and OAK, and yes San Jose as a city is bigger (as you know). Personally, I like this (except when needing to fly out , not really an issue )

I used to take the San Jose - Tokyo direct flight, which was killed around 05-06, at least twice a year and was extremely convenient as well as the direct to to Taipei. We still fly mostly out of San Jose when traveling, though there are far less direct flights from it anymore. Flying out of SFO (San Francisco) is not really all that bad as long as you take 280/380 to get there from the south bay and since I rarely (ie never anymore) travel w/ business, I don't mind many of the flights moving away from SJC. It's really just another thing hit by the economy. The best part about flying out of SJC is that it is rarely crowded.

I know SJC had horrible cust service records, but I've never once had any issue at all. I've really only had 2 issues regarding an airport in all of my travels. Both of them had to do with baggage (London-Heathrow and Orlando) with the Orlando issue being just earlier this month.

I had to watch SJ/LA at work, so I wasn't able to post at all. I know it's only the first round, but when Thornton scored in OT... I can't even describe the jubilation. If the Sharks actually win the cup, I'll probably desolidify into a fine mist of joy and celebration.

What's that, two GWG's for Thornton in the series? One in OT? Playoff performer imo.

LA put up a hell of a fight. They worked really hard along the boards for a lot of the series, and their PK is just sick aggressive. A lot was made of SJ's PP slumping, but it was more of LA swarming puck carriers so quickly. The fact that LA won any games after 6-5 epic collapse shows a lot of character, although Quick really stole game 5.

Looking forward to watching the reply at noon on CSBA so I can hear the game as well as just see it. (I work in a cardroom, so we didn't have any volume for the game.)
