It was more likely to be called 15 years ago then today, but the speed of the play wouldn't really have occurred 15 years ago.

yeah it probably doesn't happen 15 years ago because someone hooks or holds mcginn before he can come all the way across the ice

concussions are very serious business and there are like 10 charging penalties total this season. it's time the league examines why that's a rule and begins to call it like it is in the rulebook

great series and kings fans cant they didnt have their chances. lose 3 OT games, blow a 4 goal lead and fail to score on a 5minute major in dying minutes of an elimination game. they sure made it much closer than everyone would have thought going in

The excuses of "it's a tied playoff game with only 3 minute left" to not make the right call? That's what we're falling back on?

We can all agree that it's a charge, but where in the rulebook are you looking at to deem it worthy of 5 minutes? According to the rulebook "degree of violence" is the prevailing language on whether it's a minor or a major. The way I see it, Richardson making an awkward attempt to avoid the check made it appear much more dangerous than it actually was, and as much as I agree with T that people are far too quick to blame players for putting themselves in vulnerable positions, I really think that it applies here. Had Richardson stayed up it's probably a minor charging call at most, imo.

Anyways, good to see justice served in the end.

Joe was right though in his interview, they are a pretty great team, certainly we caught a break with kopitar being out of the line up. They also played like a really deep team with the clifford, simmons, richardson line producing which was was a good suprise for them. not to mention quick stole them a game and over all played well. kings were definitely a worthy adversary, im really happy theres no game 7 i dont think i would have been able to take it.

I just don't know what can constitute a 5 minute charging major if that doesn't. Can it be called a minor? Yes, it surely can. But T said there were 10 total charging calls made this entire season. Very likely only 1-2 were majors. There were probably dozens of examples of plays that by the rulebook, should have been a major that were not called. I think the "degree of violence" more has to do with the speed and distance traveled by Mcginn, not by the injury sustained or how bad it looked. Richardson didn't get up right away, but he was not seriously hurt and that didn't appear to have too much to do with the call.
