Rangers have about 17M of cap space and only owe Richards another 40M! Anyone have an idea of what a Richards buyout looks like?

it's only mediocre when you make them play that way

the same group of players was able to do this the previous year:

but then they get a couple of breaks going against them in the playoffs and lose in 5, they completely misevaluate what happened, they go after SIZE and TOUGHNESS in the form of Murray and Parros, they dumb down the puck possession system to make it a GRINDING team and then you end up with one of the worst possession teams in the NHL (not quite the Leafs, but close) carried a couple of rounds by a godly goalie... and that earns MIKE a 4 year extension

why would you have to give him 4 years? He's not going to sign for 2-3? gfy

I'd sign for 2-3 years at a milly per if all I actually did was yell DO THE RIGHT THING, PLAY THE RIGHT WAY

Guess it is the off-season now.

For fans of long suffering teams, there is hope. LAK won 1 playoff series from 1994 to 2011. A total of 8 from 1967 to 2011. Then 10 in 3 seasons. YouNeverKnow

Kings to do list this summer:
Re-sign Gaborik
Have Regehr retire

The Islanders screwed this up, no doubt, but you're way miscasting the whole situation. Niederreiter was brought up when he was 19 because he had a bonus and therefore the Islanders were saving money by having him on the roster - Niederreiter's bonuses were almost $2 million.

They parked him in the minors in order to recoup the year they had him up, because the NHL had changed the rules about bonuses counting towards the salary floor. And also while he had a nice season in the minors, he wasn't destroying the league or anything - he deserved a callup at some point, not sure why he didn't get one. He demanded a trade which is a nutso thing for a 20-21 year old player to do, and I imagine he didn't have a ton of value at that point. Nino had a nice season and he should have a long NHL career.

If they compliance him (provided he isn't hurt) in the 2 week window that's about to start, they eat nothing on the cap and he gets 2/3's of his money since he's over the age of 26.

For him it's going to be sweet since he'll get 2/3's, and then become a free agent.

If I'm him, it looks like they let me eat **** and be way over my head but maybe they BELIEVED IN ME. Butnahh, it was to get to the floor because it's a Mickey Mouse organization, so I get to ride buses now?

More 21 year olds should stand up for themselves if that's how they're treated. You don't get it both ways in selling someone on teamwork and family and unity and then promptly ****ing them over on service time cause it's business.

Seems like he did the entire year in the minors too, it's not like he sat out when he got sent down. He probably wanted some stability and asked them in the offseason if he had earned a spot, and they told him "we'll see". I'd demand a trade too, **** that ****.

edit: They didn't even invite him to training camp after the lockout. HAHAHAHAHA.

Most teams had a very limited training camp after the lockout - 15 forwards, 8 D, 2 goalies.

Look, it's one thing to demand a trade, but if he washes out in Minnesota, his NHL career is going to be in jeopardy, because no one wants a kid who thinks he's amazing but isn't. I don't blame him for asking for a trade, but he also got paid NHL money that year to be horrible, so it wasn't like he got nothing at all out of being in the NHL that year.

Was Niederreiter crushing it in Bridgeport? No - he scored 28 goals, which is quite good, but that's not dominating to the extent that they definitely purposefully buried him. It looks from the numbers like he might've pouted about not being invited to camp - after the NHL season started, Niederreiter's numbers plummeted - his last 32 games in the AHL, he scored 9 goals with 5 assists.

If it was transparently a service time issue, they could've brought him up once the season was half over, but they didn't.

League sources say the Calgary Flames have made a pitch to the Senators for their top centre but what they're offering and the destination itself make the chances of a deal happening slim.

For GM Bryan Murray to even try to convince Spezza to go Calgary, the Flames would also have to sweeten the pot because their offer falls short. The Flames are believed to be offering Jiri Hudler, Mikael Backlund, possibly Dennis Wideman and one of their several second and third-round picks.

yeah Spezza seems like a Burkie kind of player

kinda works better without the Wideman counterweight given the cap positions of the two teams
(Calgary needs the hit / Melnyk is busto)

Spezza, who has requested a trade, has reportedly put the Flames, Winnipeg Jets, Vancouver Canucks, and Edmonton Oilers on his list of 10 teams he won’t move to. Senators GM Bryan Murray doesn’t want to trade Spezza within the Atlantic Division, so that likely rules out the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens regardless of whether or not Spezza bothered to put them on the list.

So the leaking of the Calgary offer was likely Murray spinning his tires trying to gain leverage in the market? Was hearing rumblings of Dallas as a possible destination earlier this week

lol good one

except the Habs had no choice but to trade him since he forced his way out of town by boycotting a team flight or something like that. the fact that they even got ANYTHING for a player at the nadir of his value is another LOL LEAFS.

the leafs, on the other hand, knew full well how good he was and how valuable he had been to their club. or rather they should have known after 5 seasons.

but hey, gotta make some room for Tahrahna boy David Clarkson...
