We need a metric of all the hits into turnbuckles that have happened over the last 20 years. I know Ryan Smyth was the victim of a pretty bad one last year (iirc?) but I'm honestly having trouble remembering any more.

Nice post 72o all valid points and probably the reasoning behind the NHL's decision. These types of hits are rare, but I hate to think about what happens next time, whether it happens tonight or 5 years down the road, this will be one example of that scenario.

This would NEVER have happened if we didn't feel inclined to put Pierre McGuire between the benches.

Wow this is just astonishing to me, all valid points would mean you agree pacioretty has some responsibility in this incident.

i was starting to think it mightve just been an accident until I rewatched the sideview video in real speed

they are NOT going fast, chara had a lot of time while interfering to realize what was going on and then he pushed him literally into the turnbuckle (the push wasnt directed as a sidecheck at all but more in a pushing motion in a diagonal angle)...

anyways whatever i guess, nhl's gonna nhl and bruins gonna bruin.

Lucic will probably try to start a fight next game because of how mad he is at pacioretty for diving

oh, and here's a video with a bunch of stanchion hits, and lots of REALLY intentional ones where it's used as a weapon. also has bench hits, so you can see why someone like Chara might not be aware of what he was doing exactly. you hit a guy into the bench and nothing bad happens most of the time, you get the stanchion and uh oh!

I believe I answered the question pretty honestly. It was difficult because you're question were call formulated to prove you point, and worded in away that it's difficult to answer yes/no to.

Quote:
So if i understand you correctly,

-Pacioretty wasnt in a vulnerable position.
His what not what I said. My answer to that question was "no". The question wasn't not "was max in a vulnerable position."

You added "due to the fact that he was unexpecting giving how late the hit was and how far the puck was". I don't believe it should have been unexpected, so I answered no to the entire question as specifically worded by you.

Quote:
-"not really. players hit each other at this area of the ice multiple times a game"; Zdeno Chara is unaware of the fact that this particular area can be dangerous.
Ok, maybe I didn't answer that question well. But, that's because you didn't define what those dangers are, and there is no way of knowing if Chara would agree or disagree with your assessment of the potential dangers. The question, as word, is not answerable.

Quote:
-"Yes, but so what?" The frustration that he might be experiencing has no effect and doesnt increase the chances he might take a decision he might later regret/ consider to have been irrational.
Sure, if he was in fact frustrated, it may increase the chances there was intent.

Quote:
-With or without intent to injure, Chara either made an unconcsious decision to make an illegal play that resulted in a vulnerable player being serisouly injured OR Chara made a conscious decision to make an illegal play that didnt result in a vulnerable/unvulnerable player being injured?
Again, your entire question was based on the premise Max is unaware he might get hit when chipping the puck past a defender. I'll stand by my opinion that he should be aware, and therefore isn't some defenseless vulnerable player.

Ok, you showed some signs of comprise and im willing to take this as a sign of good faith.

I still do believe that Max doesnt have to expect such a hit 40 ft of where he last touched the puck since there such a small probability of it happening. As a matter of fact such a play doesnt happen on a regular basis, as evidence by the fact that a suspension was considered.
