Oh, and check out this horrible article. "We shouldn't have NHL players in the Olympics because we'd never have another 'Miracle on Ice', as if that ever would happen again".
wow, that article was so bad. i would expand on why it's terrible, but it's just not worth it.

this gets real confusing, because there's two types of IR - there's IR, where a player is eligible to come off after 3 games or 7 days, and then there's LTIR, long-term injured reserve, where i believe it's 24 days or 10 games before a player is eligible to play. when a player is on LTIR, his salary can be replaced by other player(s) making up to his salary - i.e. you can be 'over' the cap.

but, afaik, players on IR still take up cap space. if you are up against the cap, you can get relief, but only if the player is out for a while. i think san jose has run pretty hot in this regard all year.

If a player is out for longer than expected, you can retroactively put him on LTIR

believe fraser explained it as homer was not allowing the goalie to come out to make the save. I was talking to a customer while trying to listen so that might not be 100% accurate

Apparently Dan Girardi was held after practice and won't be traveling with the team to Ottawa

Also, Evgeni Artyukhin was traded to Atlanta for Nathan Oystrick and a conditional pick in 2011

I like you, Etats. But I might have to ignore you until that avatar bet is over. How long do you have to keep that?

so long to another overrated, overhyped former NYR prospect. next season perhaps MSG will have grachev and sanguinetti painting the NYR logo at center ice like they did with girardi and callahan before the 07-08 season.

Okay, I think I've found a way to circumvent it. Right before Crosby shoots, I'm going to press escape. Because, as we all know, once he shot the puck, Miller made a kick-save to Rafalski, who made a rink-wide pass to Kane who scored the winner on a breakaway. I don't need to see it 1,000 times to know what happened.

wtf I'm pretty sure my profs would have punched me in the balls if I ever turned in a paper written that way (you were a phil major too, right? or classics or whatever). No real hate intended btw; I still really like the blog and all. It just seems awfully formal and almost 'Cardoian.

Okay, hockey content. I saw someone hypothesize that Dallas might trade (dump?) Richards? Do we still really have that restrictive of an internal cap now that Hicks got rid of the baseball team? I should probably know the answer to this but no one really covers hockey down here.

Paul Stastny has to be tired of losing 3-2.
