I obviously think the Jags are not moving due to his companies ties to the Jax-port but just thought I'd share.
He extended the Jags lease 5 years just to prove to fans he wasn't moving. Lease is virtually impossible to break because Jags would have to compensate the City (stadium owner) for all lost revenue.

Rams are free agents after this year IIRC, and Chargers have a horrible stadium situation as well. But LA can't get their **** together and build a stadium so who knows. At least governments seem to be less eager to give pro sports teams stadiums for free.

Seems like a pretty good deal to lock up a top 5 LT for 3-4 years.

very happy to hear about that. Did not want him to be able to test FA

"JJ Watt made 69 tackles in the run game. Those runs gained a TOTAL of 11 yards. "

-PFF Twitter

Edit-

Quote:
@PFF How does this compare to other players in same position? Natural to expect yardage not to be very high since DEs stay close to LOS?
Quote:
PFF: Ngata - 2.9 average, Justin Smith 2.66 average. Watt 0.16 average.

(No but seriously i haven't looked much into Watt so this is interesting)

Maybe more interesting if Ngata didn't play NT, but he does. Two different sets of circumstances and direct comparisons with that stat are meaningless.

Ngata and Watt played basically the same position last year.

And just in case you need some evidence:

Watt plays anywhere from the 2i to the 3 while Ngata almost exclusively sat on the 3 technique. Watt generating the number of sacks from the position he plays is more valuable than any player that has rushed the passer before.

Watts season is as about close to GOAT for a defensive player that you can truly get too. I haven't done the legwork on White or Jones or Taylor to truly say that Watt's 2012 is the best defensive season of all time but if someone came up to me and said it, I'm not arguing against them. To do what he did from the interior is just so mind blowing that I still have a hard time believing that its true when I see the numbers and the plays.

needle,

how much would you attribute watt's success by percentage: strength, technique, scheme, whatever else im not thinking of?

Schematically he should be getting crushed. The guards are getting punches from the center or tackles with the running back playing inside-out keying on him. Its nearly a triple team whenever the QB drops back.

Strength wise he has more than enough to get by.

His first few steps off the ball are incredible. He takes away the distance between him and the offensive linemen immediately.

As far as technique wise, his use of his hands are better than any player I've seen in a number of years. Its the way Sapp used to play with the Raiders when his speed started to diminish. He does not allow OL onto him. And if an OL does engage him well he hand combats and counters better than anyone else in the league does. There is no such thing as a non-contact speed rush that you see out of Von Miller.

Which basically means you have no easy way to beat Watt like you could beat a Von or a JPP, or a Demarcus Ware. All those guys rely on the non-contact rush to set up other moves. They can find success when they don't work obviously. But Watt is almost never in a situation where he uses it. Even when he's lined up at the 5 technique its still a power move or an undercutt.

The story is that Rob Ryan campaigned crazy hard for Dallas to draft JJ Watt but they went with Tyron Smith. How disgusting would that defensive line be with Spencer, Ware, Ratliff and Watt.

Though I guess the corollary question is, how awful would that offensive line be today without their one unquestioned starter?

Makes sense for Kelly to keep teams guessing on QB.

They should try him at tailback. He'd probably be quite good if he's really faster than McCoy. We know he had moves in the past.
