After some quick googling it looks like the refs got it right. If you're jumping from the front court that counts as being established in the front court, and the ball in this case was in the front court. So ball+player were in the front court, then touched the line, so it's a violation.

(Not sure what happens if the player jumps from the front court, touches the ball while it's over the backcourt, and lands in the backcourt, but that wasn't the case here.)
