Miami might need to be on the Golden Bears longshot watch. Their schedule is Charmin soft. They avoid Clemson, UNC, ND, even NC St. FSU at home might be their only top 25 game. At most maybe 1-2 others sneak in. Anything over a 2 loss regular season would be a disaster for them.

It really hurts. So many guys with edge decisions and none of them going Michigan's way. Obviously this one's the biggest. Just gotta cherish 2023 forever but 2024 is gonna be rough.

At this point I'm just praying Harbaugh comes back. That doesn't help 2024 much but that secures the future. If Harbaugh goes Michigan will be entering another 2008-14 dark age. Why are we in this mess? Like why aren't we coming back with a loaded team like ND 89 or Georgia 22. The answer is obvious. We don't pay for play.

This has been a truly magical run over the last 3 years yet we've been recruiting like an 8-4/9-3 team. On a more specific note we've had three 5* QBs come out of the state of Michigan the last few cycles and we whiffed on all of them. Why? Cuz we won't break ncaa rules and pay for play. This is the real "cheating" that actually DOES give a team a real competitive advantage. Not fake scandals like stretchgate, burgergate, or signgate that only morons take seriously. Im talking about REAL "cheating" here. Paying for play is how Ohio State came to dominate the Big 10 for most of the 21st century as we have direct evidence going back at least to the Tressel administration. Being the only SEC style team in the Big 10 was a HUGE advantage for them.

Now one may wonder why I put cheating in quotation marks. That's cuz I don't really care that they illegally paid players. These are stupid laws created by greedy psychopaths. What pisses me off is that Michigan didn't/doesn't do it too.

And yea it's cool that we basically moneyballed college football by using NIL to keep getting fringe nfl players/transfers to return--basically the exact opposite of what Texas A&M did--and we got a natty out of that. But the problem with being the smartest guy in the room is it never lasts long, not when you have other motivated actors with deeper pockets than you. Just ask the Oakland A's. Just ask Ohio State who is busy copying our strategy right now with way more money and passion behind it.

But the thing is we're not the Oakland A's. We're ****ing Michigan. We should want to win just as much as Ohio State, Bama, LSU, Georgia, etc. Yea it's great we won a national title with one hand tied behind our back. Probably the only big time program to win it all since 1997 without doing the "cheating" that actually matters, with a student athlete culture instead of a mercenary culture. Bringing JJ back was viable with a strong nil program given that he's a fringe 1st rounder at best. But that's not the real issue. The fact that we have no serious plan B because we don't ignore the rules like the big boys is the real problem.

Unless some unforseen miracle happens in the portal Michigan is probably starting a true freshman at QB next year. That should never happen for a supposed top program. But we're in this shitty self-inflicted spot because we refuse to buy recruits like all other top contenders. IOW we're in this spot because it just means less. The fact that Harbaugh found a way to dominate the B1G and win it all despite this institutional inertia/stupidity strongly suggests he may be the best coach of all time.

Things will be fine even if they don't get a veteran QB in the portal. Michigan isn't going to be a passing spread, at least not as long as Harbaugh or Sherrone Moore are the HC. Once again it'll be ground and pound. The OL will be on the older side, if moderately experienced. Lots of RB talent. TEs and small, fast receivers. It'll be a step down from the JJ era, but it'll be OK.

The defense will be salty.

I don't think they were ever #1 under Harbaugh until this year.

In 2016 when Michigan started 9-0, Bama was also 13-0 so they were always #1 I believe.

2021 and 2022 Georgia was always above Michigan.
