michigan gets spike albrecht for trey burke's schollie. kid was unrecruited out of hs by any d1 programs (and even scarcely by d2s). he wanted to go to brown (walk on), btu he couldn't get the test scores to get in (i played aau with his brother back in the day, his brother played at brown). he went to a prep school ultimately in new hampshire.

a month ago he had no division 1 interest. a few weeks ago (i think?) he had a nasty tournament run in this prep school league and was named mvp of the tournament. last week after the tournament run he had a few visits to some small d1 schools, still not a lot of serious interest and was thinking about going somewhere local back in nwi.

a few days ago he was announced going to MICHIGAN.

i saw this kid play once in hs and i immediately noticed his passing ability, something i dont' think you see in hs kids very often. he'll be a system player, but imo he'll do a good job of it. crazy how recruiting goes sometimes.

I don't have all of the facts or details. Reading between the lines, I think some people are implying that Adidas realized Shabazz was taking a hard look at UK, Duke, possibly some other non-Adidas schools, and passed on info to the NCAA about meetings he may have had with financial advisors. That is, they may be strong-arming him into UCLA (Adidas school) by threatening his eligibility. The NCAA released a warning that Shabazz may have eligibility issues and that teams should be careful with him, and this info was leaked by the Kentucky coaching staff according to a (supposedly) reliable source on a Duke basketball forum.

Kentucky and UCLA staffs both think they're getting him so there should be some nice drama on Wednesday.
