IU looks like a Final Four team.

i'd love to say unc has like a 50% chance of winning it all, but realistically that's not the case. the rest of this will probably come off as homerish, but i feel it's pretty objective so w/e.

a lot could change b/t now and march but assuming no injuries i think most would agree that they are heavy favorites over any team not in the top 10 and that they are essentially a lock to make the sweet 16.

at that point the best team they could play is approximately top 15 team, and pending upsets they could be playing a team that's more like top 30 or so. add in the fact that they will likely be in a region close to home and the elite 8 seems highly likely. not a lock, but i figure they are at least 2:1. from that point on anything can happen, but they will probably be favorites over any team. i think they are at least 20%, and as high as 30%

i feel they are good enough that in the earlier rounds they can be off of their game and still knock off weaker teams who are firing on all cylinders. i think it will be the elite 8 b/f they play a team that can beat them w/o running white hot

Likely route if they make it to the Sweet 16:

Greensboro (NC) Coliseum (20,000+ home crowd essentially) in rounds 1 and 2.

South Regional: FedExForum (Memphis)

I fully realize that they're a solid team. I just don't think they're "OMG they're unbeatable" like many UNC fans seem to think.
Why?

Do you have any reasoning on why UNC won't go undefeated? Have you been watching them?

They made Notre Dame and Mich. St look like Division 2 basketball teams (both preseason Top 10).

And they are STILL without one of the best perimeter defenders in the country.

And they are way more than 15% to win it.

But yeah, undefeated talks are always silly this early, but they have a very, very good chance at doing it. I think anyone who has watched them play, homer or non-homer, should see this. Tom Izzo said he thinks it might be the best team he's ever coached against. And that's a huge statement.

But I guess I just don't understand why everyone wants to find reasons that they aren't as dominant as they are. They are clear favorites and no one is even close IMO.

It also helps that it's a relatively weak year for college basketball.

The bolded is the reason I think UNC is a big favorite. I don't think they are that much better than KU last year and definitely not better than UF that won 2 titles in a row but college basketball took a huge hit in the draft this year with a ton of stars coming out and UNC didn't lose anyone. It's the only reason I think UNC has looked so strong and the reason i think they are pretty big favorites. The other top teams got cleared out e/c Pitt and Gonzaga and UConn.

Yeah I mean, was Florida even +150 to win on the books like UNC is right now?

Do you have any idea how hard it is to go undefeated? I just did a little mock up of their remaining schedule using Kenpom numbers unadjusted for home court, and despite the fact that those numbers show them to be a 90+% favorite in all but three of their remaining games, two against Duke and one against Clemson, they still have only a 30% chance of going undefeated, and that's not even factoring in the ACC tournament and the NCAA tournament. It's hard to win that many games in a row, that's why hardly anyone has done it.

Dudd UNC lost 3 games last year including the final four debacle and they got better. We were definitely lucky in the Clemson games, and I don't think undefeated is that reasonable, but this year due to the other teams I think it's possible not probable.

And the reasoning basically goes that pretty much all you have to do is multiple .95^22 and boom, there's your reasoning.

I never said I thought they were favorite to do so, I just said there's reason enough to discuss it. Even if there's 10%, it's enough to justify playing with the idea of an undefeated season in ACC Basketball, which would be pretty nuts.

Also I'm surprised they are <90 vs Clemson but not at Wake or at Miami. Those will both be tougher than away vs Clemson this year IMO.

zaga is at home actually. pretty cool how they are going to be having a big nationally televised game against a good opponent at home for a change.

solid game KU, good job shooting 35% from the field. that game was awful to watch. Sherron Collins jacking it up from anywhere on court does not win basketball games. and a big lol at Self getting a technical with the game tied with 4 minutes to go or whatever. also, the officiating was joke but it was not the reason we lost the game.

What is with Collins' new haircut? Surprised to see that on a KU player.
