I usually don't get too into college ball until later in the year, so forgive me if these statements aren't too educated or have already been said, but...

-Can anyone give me some more info on the Terps this year? Victories over Mich and Mich St have to have turned some heads, no?

-WTF is up with Pitt's ridiculously easy schedule? Why don't they play anyone good?

-I think the UNC hype is getting way carried away. They're probably favorites and probably around ~15-20% to win it all, but all of the undefeated talk is just rubbish imo.

-Is Gonzaga legit? I mean, like possible best team in the nation legit? I know Daye is a huge prospect and Heyfelt(sp?) and Pargo seem very solid

-Uconn@gonzaga next week looks sick!

-Wake may be my surprise team this year, and I can't wait until they play UNC. So much talent on that team.

They beat UCLA, too. Michigan has two great players, Sims and Harris. They will get better in a week when Laval Lucas-Perry becomes eligible. He's a combo guard who transferred from Arizona. It looks like everyone is on the same page now working Beilein's system. Michigan should make the NCAA tourney, but they have enough limitations (rebounding, post play, especially defensively) to prohibit a sweet 16 run, imo.

They return everyone but a backup 3rd string PG from last years FF team. They get a healthy Lawson and a healthy Frasor on top of getting 3 all-americans (well 2 due to Zellers injury). I haven't seen Pitt or Gonzaga much but I don't think the path for the Heels is really that tough. 2 of their 4 toughest games this year they've already had in ND and MSU and those weren't even close. Tyler isn't even healthy yet and our best defender won't be available to later this month or early next month. Maybe not undefeated but they lost only 3 times last year and this team definitely has more talent and Lawson and Green have taken it to the next level.

Up coming games:

At Wake Jan 11
Vs Miami Jan 17
Vs Clemson Jan 21
At Duke Feb 11
Vs Duke March 8
ACC Tourney

Who is standing in UNC's way this year in conference? Wake and Duke, they are both solid but Wake hasn't played anyone yet will see how they do in conference. Duke looked good early, especially against Purdue but the loss to Michigan on the road makes me question them.

1.) I really don't think Maryland is all that good. Michigan State is not a really good basketball team at the moment at least and they got crushed by Gonzaga and Georgetown. Maryland strikes me as a lower half of the ACC team.

2.) Pitt does this every year. They played Duke last season in MSG but pretty much every year they play crap until the Big East starts and then lose a few games early since they haven't played anyone good.

3.) Undefeated talk is silly at this point, that point I completely agree with. However, this UNC team is ridiculously loaded in a year that college basketball is down overall which means this type of talk is somewhat natural in today's 24/7 sports world. As for your % guess, duh. In a one and done tournament I think it's ridiculous to favor any team over the field, etc.

4.) On paper, the best Gonzaga team I can remember. I've seen them play parts of a few games this year and come away very impressed.

5.) Yes, looking forward to this.

6.) I live in ACC country and Wake was underrated preseason. They have such a nice mix of size and depth. I do worry that in ACC play they'll drop a game or two that they shouldn't due to having a relatively young core. I actually think they matchup extremely well with Duke but I can't decide who I like to finish second in the conference.

-terps have no inside game whatsoever, but their guards are really really good, vasquez has a chance at 1st team AA

no UNC is that good, they are 8-0 have already played 2 top 10 teams and their average margin of victory is 30

gonzaga will make the final four they are long, athletic, can shoot and pose matchup problems for just about every team and now they get shrooms boy back they are legit

I can answer one of your questions.

Pitt played a fairly tough OOC schedule last year, including beating Duke at MSG. They offered to play at least four (that I know of) top 25 teams at MSG or other neutral sites as well as alternating home and home series. All offers were turned down. I would much prefer that they had at least one or two tough games before conference play, but with how tough the Big East is going to be this year, I think you'll get an accurate barometer of their talent soon enough.

I fully realize that they're a solid team. I just don't think they're "OMG they're unbeatable" like many UNC fans seem to think.

You do realize UNC didn't lose anyone while most of the top teams got killed by seniors leaving and the draft. If Memphis kept CDR and Rose (UCLA with Love / Westbrook) we wouldn't have this story but UNC kept everyone on a team that almost went undefeated last year and was definitely slowed down by Frasor going down and Lawson not being 100% down the stretch. Maybe they won't go undefeated but they will be heavy favorites in just about every game.

Really just solid. I guess Boston / LA are just solid too. LOL.

I'm not trying to put down the rest of NCAA field it's just almost unprecedented e/c for what UF did a couple of years ago for a contending team not to lose anyone and most other teams who competed to basically get cleared out.

Draft/Seniors were not very fortunate to Memphis, KU, UCLA, MSU, Texas.

LOL Memphis. In the last 7:26 of the game the Tigers shot a combined 2 of 15 (which includes 1 of 9 from Tyreke Evans).
