When Duncan retires, ballpark where is he in the list of the best players ever? Give or take 5 spots.

Also is Duncan + Parker > Malone + Stockton?
at the top of that list, give or take 5 spots is huge. i think he's t10 for sure, just not exactly sure where in the t10.

and yes, they are > malone/stockton imo. not sure how popular that opinion is, though.

i mean it's an open question to anyone. not just the same people who posted that.

not rly worried about sample size

I was talking sampling bias, not sample size

and this question

if we were to have a TZ fantasy draft w/ coaches included, where does pop go?
you already know the answer. It just takes one guy to draft him. So depending on who picks where - top 5 and apparently definitely a 1st round pick.

If you could guarantee he wouldn't retire anytime soon I'd prbly start thinking about it in round 3 maybe
05-22-2014 , 10:27 AM
ah. ok.

yeah this is assuming something like a 5-10 year span and him not retiring. i'm probably right around the same range.
05-22-2014 , 10:30 AM
Wait, 3rd round of how many picks? Pops clearly worth more than the 60th best NBA player.
05-22-2014 , 10:34 AM
last time we did this he went 3rd round w/ 20 teams drafting. i belive he went late 3rd. like 50s i THINK. not 100% sure tho

According to TZ not until this year he wasn't

Glad to see y'all are ahead of the curve on your evals, only took him being a coach for 18 years for that to become something obviously self evident

Was the last draft 30 pick rounds?

edit: Also, I think you'd just see more coaches picked earlier. At least the top ones. I think there's been a trend to realize coaching matters more.
05-22-2014 , 10:40 AM
I would argue it's an over-correction

What I might be willing to do (not a TZ prediction):

Pop - 3

Thibs, Horny, Brad Stevens, and Hoiberg - 5 (I'd put Carlisle in that group but someone is prbly taking him in 4)

Don't think there's anyone I'm omitting that I would take in top 5 rounds (Doc and Spo in rd 6 but that's w/o much thought and I might consider Spo in 5, actually)

I personally prbly wouldn't end up taking a coach until last 2 rounds as a draft strategy tho

Lebron holding another "the decision" press conference, saying "I decided to take my talents back to Cleve...SIKE BITCH IM STAYING IN SOUTH BEACH **** YOU OHIO" would pretty much be the greatest thing ever.

Thanks for pointing out this vid again.

Truly phenomenal vid.

I am now rooting har har hard for the Spurs to ship it this year, hopefully reigning over LeBron and the rest of the Heat.

Gross part is Spurs should be going for the repeat right now.

I always thought it was suspicious that a white guy was his best player. smh

I mean, you are either lying on an idiot if you don't agree with what Cuban said.

Yeah that is the gross part I agree. Lucky ass bounce of the ball of the rim and then Ray Allen doesn't travel nor step out of bounds.

depends. cuban is just invoking archetypes of threatening indviduals, but if "black dude in hoodie or white dude with shaved head" is all it takes for him to get a little shook then then he should prob see a therapist. if you find yourself in some kind of shady place, then of course you will want to protect yourself. if we're talking walking around downtown dallas or something ,then lol

edit: not that i disagree that we all hold our prejudices. the glass house stuff is often a cop-out though

It's a good thing Silver set the bar for objectionable comments at a ban for life. What's the punishment for mildly objectionable comments?

I am amused that Sterling is going to get voted out based on the cover-up instead of the crime. It's a tidy way to ignore Stern's years of increasingly egregious neglect.

As the team's core gets older Pop's GOATness becomes more evident and harder to argue against
05-22-2014 , 12:55 PM
I don't think Cuban literally meant that he ****s his pants every time he passes a black guy in a hoodie or a white guy with a shaved head. His point was that everyone makes irrational generalizations sometimes and it's more useful to work on overcoming your own issues than to point fingers at other people. I mostly agree, even though what Sterling did was so outrageous that the finger pointing was justified.

I appreciate Cuban's honesty and wish more people were as willing as he is to say what's on his mind even if it might make some people mad
05-22-2014 , 01:16 PM
good for CUBES for not being scared to say something true

he should have just taken it a step further tho and said "im a billionaire and Im obviously going to be suspicious of any rando poor on the side of the road, especially if they look scary. lolpoors."
05-22-2014 , 01:21 PM
i don't think he literally meant that either, but regardless the choice of words itself merits some discussion. and yeah i agree about his point as it stands wrt personal prejudice and personal responsibility regarding such prejudices, or the point as i perceive it at least, but as i said above i think there's some copping out in there
05-22-2014 , 01:21 PM
I don't agree with a public figure that a lot of people like should be making statements like that. People will start to think it's not racist to be making stereotypes like that because its "honest".

By no means am I saying it isn't okay to have thoughts like that, but someone like Cuban sharing it makes people think its more acceptable, which does lead to more racist thoughts IMO.
