There's this thing called the salary cap that makes this scenario a problem.

If LeBron was only interested in no income tax, he'd pick the Heat or the Mavs, not the Rockets (who can't get him anyway unless they moved some 2011 contracts or renounced Yao). I doubt that's going to matter to him at all, though.

I didn't watch Saturday (thank God), but I imagine the Grizz coming into tonight's game with their confidence shattered.

May not be pretty.

the rockets have far more cap space than the mavs.

THAYER is right (ooh, that felt icky to say), and labron is playing somewheres else next season. NYK? Maybe. I know where he's not playing, and that's the city that starts with C-L-E and ends in D-E-S-P-A-I-R.

The reason I thought of Houston was because of Tmac's 20mil coming off the books.

The Rockets do not have enough cap space for a max free agent unless they renounce Yao. The Mavs could, in theory, deal the DUST Chip and extras to Cleveland for LBJ if he forced them into it. There's also absolutely no reason for LeBron to choose Houston, where you could at least make an argument for Dallas or Miami.

I really don't understand why he would re-sign in Cleveland. It's what will probably happen, but it seems dumb to stay there. It's not the best way for him to win tons of championships and cement his GOAT status, and it's not the best place to stay for marketing opportunities. To me, it seems like Cleveland is the worst of the three choices (home, marketing, or winning).

It would def be forum +EV if Lebron leaves Cleveland, just for the ensuing Victor blowup.

Mavs can only add someone through sign-and-trade. They don't have much resources to offer except cash and roddy beaubois.

There is also the fact that the Cavs may refuse to S&T Lebron out of principal of not wanting to have anything to do with him leaving Cleveland from a PR standpoint.

Yes, except for the fact that Dallas is a bigger city, has a better owner who is willing to spend out the ass to win, and has Dirk, so he'd basically be guaranteed a few championships. FWIW, I don't think there's even a 0.1% of LBJ coming to Dallas, but if you look at it rationally and ignore the fact that LeBron grew up in Ohio, why should he pick Cleveland over Dallas, New York, New Jersey, or half the other teams in the NBA? Why would he choose to stay with Mo, AV, and JJ instead of going to a team with another superstar if he wants to win? Why would he choose to stay in Cleveland over New York if he wants to become an international megastar?

I still don't get why you guys are saying Houston can't afford to sign Lebron, but I'll assume ignorance from you guys on Houston only having $40million on the books according to hoopshype or on my part on salary rules, which I don't know much about.

My dream scenario would be Lebron signing with the Thunder. Just put him at PF and ship Green.

proly bc his team is gonna win 65+ games for a long time. and lol at trying to play the owner game. gilbert is definitely on cubans level. also chinese gangster businessmen own 15% of the cavs.

cavs have a younger core, better depth, and more cap maneuveribility.

If all the categories are crime-related I suppose you are right.

Besides, wasn't labron spotted wearing a Cowboys hat or gear or something and proclaim hisself a big fan? Now he'll get to go to their games without even getting on a plane!

Even if Yao re-signed at a lower salary, they'd only be able to hand out about half of a max deal.
