Minnesota as the 2nd worst team in the league this year seems really off to me.

Their starting lineups last year for the majority of the year had the likes of lorenzo brown/zach lavine/wiggins/bennett/dieng with a mix of Jordan Hamilton and Adrian Payne.

Rubio should be back and healthy which relegates brown/lavine to backup pg minutes. Lavine will be backing up Kevin Martin at the 2 this year(who was also hurt for a large part of the season). At the wing you will have Wiggins/TOWNS starting with BAZZ and Bjelica getting backup minutes over Payne and Bennett which is huge.

The center spot is the most interesting. KG will probably start but be relegated to 15 minutes a game. Gorgui is a fine backup center but a ****ty starter. IF(and it's a big if) Pek can play 15-20 mpg this year after his ankle debridement that's ok depth at the center spot. If Bjelica transitions well it's possible he sees a decent chunk of minutes at the 4 and Towns plays more center with KG. Replacing starters minutes from Payne/Bennett with Towns/Bjelica is quite huge, the same for BAZZ getting backup minutes over Chase Budinger.

idk, if everything goes ok and they dont get ravaged by injuries again I see the Wolves this year as better than LA/SAC/Denver/Portland and on line with a team like dallas/phoenix(but with more athletic upside than either, worse coaching though). ~11th in the rankings seems about right this year, imo.

Monty's schemes pulled Asik and AD away from the hoop way, way more often than you would ever like, so they were often behind the eight ball to recover, contest, etc. Asik is just too slow for stuff like that and AD isn't at the level his block totals and rep would suggest quite yet. The perimeter defense in front of them for much of the year was also pretty damn bad. Tyreke has all the athleticism in the world, but he just is not a good defender at all. A healthy Holiday and Pondexter should help a lot, if a healthy Holiday is even possible anymore.

I remember watching them for a half, and their PNR scheme was that the bigs hedged out HARD on every PNR. Meaning they chose the strategy that would pull AD as far as possible away from the basket.

MOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

edit: Noze sniped, me yeah. Also the perimeter defenders are not good is an important point.

yeah, wolves way too low. Wouldn't be totally shocked if they were fighting for the 8th spot late in the season.

Byron Scott: Kobe could see time as power forward

Quote:
Coach Byron Scott told NBA.com it's possible Bryant could spend time at power forward.

"If we don't get another guard, then Kobe's in that mix," Scott said of a potential switch. "I'm kind of going through those scenarios. But not necessarily as far as who's starting and who doesn't ... I think [Bryant] will play more 3 than 2. If we can get him at the elbows and at the mid-post, the more effective he'll be.

"I don't think he needs to be using up the whole 94-foot floor. If we can cut that down some, I think that saves his legs as much as possible. But if we can get him where he operates best, which to me is elbows on each area, top of the key, at the pinch post, at the mid-post, then I think he can be real effective for us."
In the NBA you are what you can guard, I could see him guarding the Paul George's and DMC's of the league when they play 4 but then there aren't really any 4's on the court just a 5 (or 4 playing the 5) and evone else. Headline is misleading imo.

Maybe Byron plans to go for what the Wizards did last year.
Playing Pierce at the 4 only in playoffs.... b\c they're gonna make playoffs...

I love Becky Hammon, but Ime Udoka deserves a head coaching job more than Becky Hammon does.
07-28-2015 , 09:20 AM
Hammon will get a job, if not with spurs somewhere else.

LeBatard's show has talked bout it as a topic. In their opinion the only place that maybe would do it beyond SA itself is a Spurs disciple that's been long tenured at wherever

Like I brought up with Nath in the draft thread; GMs job #1 is keeping their job so most aren't willing to out on a ledge and be revolutionary when they could get **** canned over it if it doesn't work

Agree with this. Pop has so much clout/tenure/etc that he can push boundaries like this. Most new coaches can't.

Wow, Dean nailed it last year. Tax savings notwithstanding, the Heat pretty much chose Bumpy Johnson over Napier, a year later.
