went with thunder in 6 which is the consensus. only chance miami has if Wade plays like a superstar each and every game which isnt gonna happen. dont know what's wrong with the guy, is it the knee?

2 years ago i thought miami was going to be unbeatable. proves you need 7 guys.

don't care who wins but hoping lebron plays lights out. i watch First Take every morning and just want to see Bayless shut up for once but Lebron could average 42 pts & 13 rebounds this series and dickwad would still trash him.

No, the Suns two years ago almost certainly weren't as good as this Celtics team.

That 2010 Lakers team was no great shakes great either, particularly as far as champions go. It's possible that all four of the conference finalists this year were better than all four that year.

With the 2-3-2, if the series goes according to form, the teams are going to be a virtual coinflip after 5 games, with the team with the better record having to win 2 in a row at home to win the series. I think with the more unbalanced matchups in the early rounds, the 2-2-1-1-1's better in that it keeps the team that's overmatched with at least some realistic chance to win if they're down 3-2, but in the Finals, the 2-3-2 is clearly better IMO.
It's true that the road team being up 3-2 in a 2-3-2 is as close as a series can be after 5 games, but anything other than this exact scenario in that format isn't even remotely interesting after 5 games. So it's really just high-risk, high-reward from a drama standpoint. I personally see the risk as greater than the reward.

You're saying this year's Celtics team was better than the 2010 Celtics teams? Two years older, two years slower and with PP and Ray Allen both slowed to some degree due to injuries? The only thing better about the 2012 Celtics is Rondo and that alone doesn't make up for Pierce and Ray Ray's decline.

Brandon Bass replacing Glen Davis was not unsubstantial.

EDIT: plus iirc either that year or the one prior Garnett and/or Perkins were gimping it up and nowhere near 100%.

Davis godmoded that playoffs though, and Nate/TA/FFD/Sheed was a completely and utterly dominant 2nd unit. Garnett was gimping it up in 2010 but iirc we were able to do quite alright with him off the floor because the bench balled so hard. And Ray was gimping it up pretty hard this year.

I'm probably just annoyed that the team that should have won didn't even make it out of the second round and the other best team didn't make the finals. But you could argue that exact thing also happened in 2007.

Other than the Suns' bizarre run (helped by a down year and rungood against the Spurs coupled with the Roy injury which crippled the Blazers) I didn't find 2010 to be a very satisfying season. And aside from the final two minutes of game seven the entire finals sucked.

Like we talked about last night, I don't think the bolded is true at all. Styles make series. And I told Heels that, just bc Boston struggled to knock off Philly (in 7) that didn't mean Miami would run wild on Boston.

Seems like you have recency bias. 2010 Lakers/C's teams were really good teams. Both better than this years Spurs and C's. And both would bode well against this years Heat as well, imo.

That Suns team wasn't that good, but this years C's was pretty lucky to make the Conf Finals with their nagging injuries, and no Bradley/JON.

Miami is closer OKC than Portland or Golden State. Just slightly closer than LA to OKC. Miami is closer to OKC than it is to Boston.

Pretty sure it's been in effect for decades, back when flying from, say, LA to Boston took forever and a 2-2-1-1-1 would have been brutal. With all teams having nice, private jets at this point it's definitely outdated.

The first team to score in the paint on a legit post up move wins. Gonna be a lot of jump shots and isolation in this one.

I could see your point about recency bias, but I've been bitching about the weakness of the 2010 playoffs since they happened.

Right, but that has zero to do with why it was established. Or maybe you are agreeing that the logic doesn't hold up a decent percentage of the time.

If the two #1 seeds had made the finals this year - San Antonio and Chicago - they'd both be in the same time zone. Or OKC and Chicago. San Antonio - Cleveland in 2007 were close too. Etc.

Yeah, I can't reflect on the 2010 playoffs from an unbiased viewpoint. The Celtics were barely favored to make it out of round 1 and curbstomped the entire East, I have nothing but happy memries.

This is pretty crazy.

I offered a bunch of my friends the Heat +130 and they all snapped it up.
