Buffalo has way more heartbreaking moments, whereas Cleveland just sucks.
I live in Western New York and live and die, mostly die, with the Bills and Sabres. Add to that the fact that my favorite baseball team is the Red Sox, who until winning it all twice came oh so close, only to let me down over and over. Heartbreak indeed, Crazy.
My experience with the Sox reminds me, though, that when the Bills and Sabres finally come through, it will be sweet.

Yeah I went to school there the year the Indians beat the Yankees in 07... Buffalo, NY is wayyyy closer to Ohio than it is Albany, Long Island or NYC.

I'm not really a fan of any of their teams except maybe the Tigers a little bit so I don't think I'm particularly biased on this one. I feel Detroit is truly one of the great sports cities in the country with some of the best fans I've ever been around,

If I was moving to a city solely for the sports experience, Detroit would be near the top of my list (even moreso if you include Ann Arbor not too far down the way).

Because they're idiots and haven't had to experience going 0-0 since 1966?

Yeah that was awesome aswell. However, I have to say that the best way to deal with the Haka has got to be making as small a deal of it as possible. Pretty much every time a team has laid down a big challenge to it, they've been soundly beaten.

i guess the real question is it better to have loved and lost 4 super bowls with lousy clutch FG depth, or to have never have loved at all? Win a super bowl and you're 1-0. If Buff wins the SB the next 3 years they're still 3-4 all-time. idk and its always dark and cloudy in buff, those people seriously need some championship goodness.

Buffalo is also home to the Mets AAA organization. Thats gotta lead to some people committing suicide alone.

It's far, far better to lose some Super Bowls than to never be in one.

You could have never been in one, not truly sell out your stadium in a few years, not have a stadium sponsorship, have one of the better winning% in NFL history, yet still have extremely whiny fans and have 10 blackouts in one season.

While at the same time deliver one of the most crushing losses in franchise history to some franchise in the playoffs

seriously? i gotta imagine it's harder on the fans to have your long, hard-worked season boil down to the 1990, 1991, 1992, and 1993 Super Bowls... only to have your team lose all four. That's like 4 heartbreaks in 4 years for a city that has zero pro championships. Sabres have never been to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Absolutely.

I grew up watching Broncos lose Super Bowls.

Was heart breaking but still I had interest in January. It is way worse to be not relevant than 2nd place.

Super Bowl losses just meant you had a year of hope and fun. Not a miserable year.

The answer is still Cleveland. Browns have a good shot at 0-16.

pokerfink - I don't know what it is about that place but it was one of the quietest games I've ever been to the one time I went to a football game at U of M (1995 or so I think). It was weird how that many people could be that quiet but I also wondered if it was kind of an issue with the layout of the stadium and all the sound traveling straight-up or something. I mean, I couldn't even really hear the band very well.

But it's a good team (generally) with a lot of fan loyalty and they do actually get that many people in there which is the type of thing you just can't say elsewhere. Plus, they are part of perhaps the best rivalry in all of college football which I think counts for quite a bit too.

As far as fan support and crowds in Ann Arbor:
University of Michigan hockey is one of the loudest and best sports atmospheres I've ever experienced. It might be #1 actually. It's just awesome in that place and almost all the players from visiting teams rate it as their #1 place to have played at as well. Again though, it may be kind of a function of the facility as that old building reverberates the sound around. The band is just deafening (and it's probably only 30 members or so way up high in the corner) and I think a crowd of 1,000 could sound loud in there.

I have very seriously recommended to many people that if you happen to be in the area and get an opportunity to go to a U of M home hockey game you need to jump on it.

I look at this a different way: if I meet a Cleveland or Buffalo fan, beers are on me until they tell me otherwise. I give them instant respect because nobody can dare question their commitment. All of these fans are proud of being fans of their teams and they don't care what anyone thinks about it. Win or lose (lose, mostly) they got each other.

Compare that to cities like Atlanta or Miami where fans lose interest really quick and its hard to say Buffalo and Cleveland are the worst cities for a sports fan.

In the past 15 years or so they have also served as the AAA affiliate for the Pirates and the Indians. The Mets affiliation is relatively recent (3 or 4 years ago I think)

this is where I am.

I think you guys arguing about CLE vs. BUF just don't understand the general scene in places like ATL and MIA.

Being a sports fan in ATL and MIA just isn't as great because it just isn't as fun.

As I said before, the fan support for the Bills and Sabres is just hard core. The fans from that area are some of the best and most passionate I've ever met. They really care about their teams. You just don't get that impression from the ATL and MIA areas.

I'll move to Buffalo for the sports experience any day.
