I thought one of the announcers said Joanna would be a two-division champ if she won, and that would be wrong, but I assume I misheard and they said a two-time champ.

Question: If you win the belt and defend it, does that make you a two-time champ? Or do you have to lose it and regain it to be a two-time champ (of the same division)?

I assume it's the latter, but it's a bit illogical.
