Ha ha oh wow, Rousey could beat an equivalent male UFC fighter. That is a scalding take indeed, my friend.

yeah, two local idiots were saying that one sports talk radio. then later in the day w00dy here is saying the same thing. nice

I'd be willing to bet with a standard training camp, she could beat ME. though I suppose the size/strength/weight thing makes that a different argument.

Rousey beats A lot of male ufc fighters in a grappling match. None in an mma fight.

who do you think she beats in a grappling match? specifically?

Have you ever practiced BJJ or wrestled before?

Maybe there's some utterly one-dimensional striker at 125 I'm forgetting about... maybe? But no, Rousey would beat near zero male UFC fighters in a grappling match, even as good as she is. Biology is a hell of a thing.

I've trained BJJ for many years, and I've trained with some pretty high level female fighters. Being only 130lbs myself I feel I am able to see to see the difference more than most (as I'm not also adding a weight advantage) and I believe with the grappling edge she would have over some of the lower weight class fighters, I don't think the genetic advantage would be enough.

I've seen too many white belted men wreck shop on purple/brown/black belted women to think that's true. The strength is too much to overcome. It's just overwhelming

Rousey could certainly choke out joe schmoe from the street. Not a good athlete, not trained

But just about any UFC fighter at the 125 or 135 pound level is going to be >>>>> her in every physical category of strength, grip, cardio, reaction speed, etc. And the lighter guys tend to have pretty solid well rounded backgrounds. They have to, because their fights are always transitioning. Who are these one-dimensional 135 pound guys she could beat? They're almost all great grapplers who would smoke her without even trying. I really can't even think of a poor grappling 135 pound fighter at the moment. HW and LHW are easy - lots of pure strikers with laughable ground games there historically. But the lighter weights are solid all around.

Ignorant question: is Rousey really so amazingly good or are her competition objectively a bit crap? Just seems hard to believe that genuinely good opponents can't last even a single round. I guess that skill differences get magnified in the women's game as they're physically weaker than the men.

Tyson had a similar run and that was not people tapping. Silva looked that unbeatable for years even when he went the distance. Lots of men have been scary dominant until they got solved or got old.

IMO women fighters just suck for the most part. I think Rousey is great but I also don't think there is much competition.

She is the good player on Party in 2005, way below the standard that people will be at in 5-10 years time but way above the competition she is facing

It isn't 2008, people are not rapidly getting better at MMA at this point that you can predict that people are going to be vastly better 10 years from now.

There just isn't enough female athletes in sports that can transition to MMA either to have some huge jump in the talent pool.

It is a ridiculous analogy. To act like she is Royce in UFC 1 is absurd.

My dad doesn't watch MMA (unless he is at my house and I have it on) and if you took a head only lineup of Rousey and the 9 most popular blond pornstars today there is no way he picks her out (Not sure I could either).

Anyways, was talking to him yesterday and he was relating to me he saw some segment on ESPN where they said she could probably beat most of the men in UFC her weight, but would never fight them because she is so socially conscious and promoting men hitting women is a bad message, or some other PC nonsense along those lines. Anyways, sounds like he bought it hook line and sinker, probably like most casual sports fans. And the legend grows.

That being said, I think she is probably something special, and you aren't giving her enough credit if you just say, "LOL, competition is weak," but I am not ready to anoint her the mens 135 lb champion like it seems the mainstream media is.

The statement is that she could beat some men. Not that she would beat those men (is a favorite).

The guy got such hype pre Cormier fight I actually thought there might be something in it but it was all a waste of breath.
