New to ufc but enjoying this. Henderson is a beast. Is light heavyheight generally the most entertaining to warch?

Nice to see Henderson smack around Diaz for five rounds. Thought one of those submission was gonna catch him though.

I just wanted to give a shout out to Nick Newell, the new XFC lightweight champion.

Guy has 1.5 arms.

Check him out on youtube, guy will be in the ufc for sure, he will have a huge following when/if he blows up.

'Lightweight', but yeah, the best combinations of speed, power, and technique seem to be at lightweight (155) and welterweight (170). Almost any fight has the potential to be crazy though, that's why MMA is awesome.

Also, +1 on GTB's Nick Newell shoutout.

Newell by sub
Newell by KO
Newell wins XFC title

Holy **** I thought I was seeing things when I saw that he only had one hand.

Would Dana White actually let a one-handed man in UFC? I mean, I guess if he's desperate to have a women's match lead a UFC card, then having a cripple fight on another would be okay.

I'd watch something like this on UFC

Personally I would go:

1. 185
2. 205
3. 170
4. 155
5. 265
6. 145
7. 135
8. 125

I do love the speed/skill of the 155s, but there just aren't enough finishes for my liking. I find fights to be a lot more exciting when you're really on the edge of your seat because you know a finish can come at any second.

Except he's 9-0 and killing people. Not exactly a freak show, he actually has mad skills.

Poor Shogun has been in some wars his last 3 or 4 fights and I think he should walk away right now before he suffers permanent brain damage.

He's already lost his good looks and he has kids to think about. He's easily set up for life at this stage so no point becoming a gatekeeper like Rich Franklin.

He reminds me of Rampage in that his one-dimensional Muay-Thai/wrestling style is hopelessly no good against the new breed in MMA.

Look at his face compared to Machida's. Machida is 34 and still looks in his mid twenties. Machida is old school too but still relevant cause of his weird elusive style.
Looking forward to Lyoto overcoming grandpa Henderson and having another shot at Bones.

(ps: I don't think Gustaffson has a prayer against jones)

He was earning American dollars and he lives in Brazil where it'll go much further, plus remember he was in 3 title bouts where he'd earn a cut of the PPV, and he was earning big bucks in Pride in the days when Pride money dwarfed what fighters could earn in America .

are you sure he earned PPV cuts? I thought only a VERY few earned them, including like gsp, silva, lesnar

I believe 15-20 guys earn PPV cuts at any given time. Obviously it fluctuates with retirements, additions, etc. This is from Meltzer if I'm not mistaken. The amount of the cut varies from fighter to fighter.

I'd guess right now

The 8 champs (note - the lower weight class guys probably have small cuts, but since they don't draw much the UFC doesn't lose much by giving them a cut)

Mighty Mouse
Cruz
Aldo
Benson
GSP
Silva
Jones
JDS

PPV cuts likely

Rashad Evans
Cain Velasquez
Shogun
Lyoto
Mir
Sonnen
Nick Diaz
Dan Henderson
Rampage

Possible
Faber (he almost certainly had them at some point, don't know if he still would)
Bisping (for the UK market? who knows?)
Vitor Belfort
Rich Franklin (many, many time headliner. certainly had them before, not sure if still does)
Forrest Griffin (ditto to Faber and Franklin)
Edgar (possible a holdover from when he was a champ?)

15-20 sounds about right, although you can nitpick who does and doesn't.

edit: almost certainly rousey as well. Who knows if she draws that well, but if she doesn't then she won't make much off the cut and the UFC is fine either way.

Bisping is highly unlikely to have a PPV cut as ESPN shows the fights in the UK
