I might make an exception for Messi's first matches. Seems like they rigged the group to get 2 other public faves in the group, but that also makes it unlikely that Miami will progress to the KO stage.

**** making an exception for Messi’s first game. There’s a god damn Fossil derby tomorrow night!!

Not the desired result unfortunately, but must have been a lot of fun. 2-2 and then 19 penalties needed to decide the shootout.

Up to 15 million after all bonuses apparently and earning 15 million over 3 seasons, which would slot him just above Gignac as LMX's highest paid player. That's a lot of money for LMX, hopefully he does well.

Busquets never relied on athleticism. He's too old and slow now for Europe but not for MLS and he should dominate just by doing his thing.

But he's a flopping louse who played for barca and they will learn that soon.

Inter Messi too good. 3 G + 1 A + hockey assist out of the 6 goals scored so far. One thing that's annoying is that these games are kinda pointless when it comes to determing MLS stats.

Like Zlatan had 52g 17a in 56 MLS appearances. I'd like to see how Messi compares. He'd have a great start with this ATL match, but it's in some dumb sideshow competition.

Also is Miami's GK Callender actually supposed to be good? He's been playing out of his mind with Messi. Like 13 stops on 14 SOG. Maybe he's just like that Hasal guy for VWFC, who happened to have a super lucky stretch, but isn't actually all that good.

I would have legit feelings about all this being rigged if I didn't watch RED BULL AMERICA put 4 past an absolutely porous ATL midfield/back line in person. How does that coach still have a job?

Also, I'm legit excited for RAYADOS vs Royal Salt Lake tonight

Yah, it looks like they're 5W 6L 5D so far. I guess it's a decent showing considering they're all home matches for MLS. But I think it's pretty clear that the days of Liga MX dominating are over and the 2 leagues are roughly even now or maybe LMX slightly ahead.

One big issue for their league is that they did away with relegation, so the bad teams got complacent and now they're really bad (Querétaro, San Luis, Necaxa, etc.)

Yea Liga MX really lol'd themselves with CONCACAFness. Shocking how bad some of these teams are.

Also how bad do they need money to agree to play every game in USA? What a farcical competition.

Gignac and RAYADOS still the GOATs though. Why isn't Canales in the squad yet?

Yah, the 2 Monterrey clubs have been by far the best for about a decade.

Canales' transfer just became official a couple days ago, so probably has to wait a bit longer. Maybe we'll see him vs. Messi at some point.

sort of mls-related but not 100%:

Dortmund vs. the san diego loyal (yes a usl team) is currently on espn2. the stadium (35,000 capacity) looks to be, at best, 20% full. most of the fans are wearing Dortmund gear.

if this match was in Las Vegas against our local usl team, it would be easily have been sold out (9,000 capacity stadium) with mostly Las Vegas fans.

So, my questions are:

1. Why would Dortmund agree to this friendly, other than a chance to spend some time at the beach?
2. Why did San Diego get a MLS team instead of Las Vegas?

also Dortmund has scored one minute into the match so more lol san diego soccer.

Liga MX has been making a bit of a comeback the last few days (they were 4-6-5 when I made that post but much worse going into that day)

the one result that still blows my mind is Puebla losing 4-0 to Minnesota. They were up a man the last 60"+ of the match and were completely dominated anyways.

Not a whole lot of the decisions that MLS has made have made a ton of sense imo. I think the league is blowing up b/c soccer, in general, is quickly growing in USA/Canada and there are a couple ambitious/smart owners that are dragging the rest of the league along.

Since it seems like MLS will never stop expanding. I think it'd be better to add as many West Coast teams as possible, SD and LV for sure, maybe PHX, Sacto, and a couple others. Might as well try to hit 40 teams. Then from there you could split into West and East. Maybe have long tourneys with the winners from each conference facing off in a "Super Bowl" of sorts.

ya the game was fun, and the couple hundred leon supporters that turned up made the atmosphere better than usual, but i wish both sides brought more. vancouver crowds are almost always small and lame

their group was weird too. they had this "leon! leon! leon!" chant they kept doing, which was booming, but they weren't singing and chanting too much outside of that. not sure why, the numbers they had could have owned our building lol

tigres up next ... maybe their support will be stronger. not to mention their team
prob won't be there for that one
