Man, what a gut punch. Super proud of the team though, they played well and fought like hell.

Not sure why LAFC didnt renew BWP, even if only for the purpose of this tourney. They were basically playing without a 9

Gignac walked around to every single LAFC player after the match to shake their hand. Class move.

MLS’ contingent is pretty garbage for next CCL and Liga MX has all their best teams. Might have to wait until 2022 for another big run. Depends a lot on what TFC does to rebuild.

Crew, Timbers, Union, and ATL is pretty meh.

And TFC from Canada if they can beat a Forge FC (VWFC likely couldn’t, so you never know)

Atlanta is in CCL? Why?

Last edited by minnesotasam; 12-23-2020 at 01:32 AM. Reason: Shouldn’t it be Seattle?

Also, can’t emphasize this enough: CCL ****ing rules. Both matches against León were so fun to watch and I’ll absolutely be flying out to an away match as soon as I can again.

Normally it would be Seattle, but they gave up that spot to give to the MLS is Back bubble champ instead.

The ATL got in bc one spot goes to the US Open Cup champ, but they didn’t even play it this year so they were like “let’s just give it to ATL again.”

They finally have a coach and some decent talent to surround Josef and are usually willing to spend a ton of money, so hopefully they’re back to form.

This is what I’ve been saying but I think you kinda have to be tuned into both cultures to really get it as the competition hasn’t quite taken off yet.

The Impact run in 15 was insanely fun and seeing them in the final vs America will always be a treasured memory even though it didn’t end well.

Went to the final last year, a Regio derby between Tigres and Rayados and that was lit as well, and obv León was pretty fun too.

I even went to Toluca, which is a crap city (sorry cruizn) to watch Sporting KC. At least their stadium is pretty unique.

I can’t get enough of this competition. There’s also usually a rando Central America team making a run and feels like a 15 seed in March Madness.

Really hoping the proposal of MLS/Liga MX joining Libertadores is true. Even though it would be a logistical nightmare, it would be off the charts fun, like CCL on steroids.

Yeah that’s an interesting point FK about both cultures. Obviously living in LA with a predominantly latinx fanbase we feel it more acutely than my childhood friends in Minnesota (for example). I also absolutely love Mexico so there’s that.

Ugh, I wish this game had been Wednesday nite, was only able to catch like 5 minutes in the 2nd half. From what I can see, it appears that the match was there for the taking for LAFC. Disappointing!

but are any of them any good? only time will tell! (probably not)

they got played so hard for rivero lol
worked hard but wasn't that talented, couldn't accomplish much on a terrible team

hope at least 1 of alexandre/caicedo can play, would be nice to see what cavallini can accomplish with a little service
formed a decent partnership with montero last season, as the two competent players on the team, but i guess he's going back to seattle now or something

also cincinnati have done some crazy stuff this offseason ... signed some brazilian forward for like 20m, and adding pity martinez from atlanta or something?

neat to see some of these teams going for it a little bit, bringing in some talent

CONCACAF Champs League is back and night 1 brought a ridiculous amount of CONCACAFing

Portland drew 2-2 at Marathon (Honduras) blowing 2 leads in the process. Marathon grew out the grass to a ridiculous degree which made for a kind of lol match, PDX blew like 5 great chances early then ran out of gas with 30 minutes to play.

ATL somehow beat Alajuelense (Costa Rica) 1-0. Near the end of the 1st half, Guzan got sent off for a challenge outside his box. The ref actually pulled out a yellow crowd then seemingly changed his mind to a red after the Ala players surrounded him. Then in the 2nd half, a 10-man ATL got a penalty when a handball was given that hit the defender in the face, didn't even touch the hand. Barco converted, then ATL's 18-year old backup goalie somehow made like 8 saves to preserve the win.
