i'd guess it falls under "while on the rubber, makes a motion associated with his pitch and does not complete the delivery" but he pretty clearly wasn't attempting to fool the runner.

am i crazy for thinking that it's +EV for NL pitchers to never swing? they'll walk every so often but more importantly will at least increase the opposing pitcher's pitch count. this obviously wouldn't apply to guys who are remotely competent.

nothing tilts me more than seeing a pitcher swing at the first pitch and ground out weakly

my guess is you're seriously overrating how often pitchers get walked (because it's such a rare event the times it happens will stick in your mind). even the best hitting pitchers pretty much never walk (micah owings career 104 wrc+ 3.7% bb rate, mike leake career 59 wrc+ 3.1% bb rate, carlos zambrano career 57 wrc+ 1.3% bb rate).

Yeah that's crazy talk disko. Maybe the guys who are the absolute worst hitters, but pitchers still manage to babip their way to OPS' north of .300.

maybe if the dodgers call up joc pederson and eat the contracts of ethier and crawford but pederson doesn't cost $2349586290856238 so there's no chance of that

eating kemp's contract is probably better than eating ethier's contract at this point although mattingly insisting on playing ethier in center could turn me into a liar
