ruben amaro probably desperately tried to get burnett to sign a 7 year deal but burnett declined because he wants to retire.
02-12-2014 , 02:22 PM
i think burnett might be the youngest guy on the phillies now

I think they just thought they couldn't afford $14M (i.e. risk him accepting the QO)

last season of the captain

the Rivera victory tour was just a warm-up. I expect nothing less than a mayoral visit each time Jeter goes to a ballpark for the last time
02-12-2014 , 03:28 PM
I am not looking forward to the over the top Jeter retirement tour

Last game at Yankee stadium will be and should be an LDO cool moment but I don't give a **** about jeter's last game at tropicana
02-12-2014 , 03:29 PM
Bud Selig must be saddened his retirement tour has now been overshadowed.
02-12-2014 , 03:54 PM
Jeter and Rivera did it right. How did it take 100 years for iconic athletes to realize this is the best way to go out?

Interesting that he'll never play with A-Rod again.

Glad everyone else is excited for Retiring Yankee Fellatio Tour 2014.
02-12-2014 , 04:16 PM
LOL the hate is furious already. Someone should start a Jeter 2014 retirement thread.

I'm a die hard Yankee fan and I think this is all ridiculous. The Mariano tour was way too much. Between the all-star game and the standing ovations at every ballpark and the formal ceremony blah blah blah. The only thing I really enjoyed was his last appearance when Jeter and Andy took him out. That was great.

And this is one of my favorite Yankees ever, who holds the incredible prestige of being my 2p2 avatar.

All this celebrating takes away from baseball, and the Red Sox cheering for Mo made me sick. I really hoped jeter wouldnt do this.

Sigh

Haters ITT. It's nice to see loyal athletes who didn't leave for the money. Jeter is the perfect example of how an athlete should behave on and off the field. All class. Played for the love of the game, never mouthed off, never complained, and didn't care about the money. I can't wait to see him play his last game at Yankee Stadium.
02-12-2014 , 04:40 PM
Yep, I have no issues with it. Historic player is history.
02-12-2014 , 04:42 PM
Easy to be loyal when you're bangin a hot bitch per hour in NYC and the team you're playing for can afford to pay you whatever the **** you want.
02-12-2014 , 04:43 PM
Jeter got paid. If he really didn't care about the money he would've just taken the player option on his contract.
02-12-2014 , 04:52 PM
I don't think Jeter will be treated the same as Rivera. Opposing fans always liked Mo. I don't think Jeter has that same level of respect.

He might not get the same respect, but he's certainly more popular.
02-12-2014 , 04:59 PM
I don't agree, I think opposing fans like Mariano more. I can't argue too strenuously, small sample size of course. I could be wrong, I just don't expect him to get the kind of reception Rivera received.

I'm bummed about this, was really hoping Jeter would be an albatross at Shortstop for them for at least a couple more years.

I think Rivera got the royal ambassador treatment because he reminds a lot of old timers of Roberto Clemente as far as having respect and honor. Plus anything getting arod out of the news was a good thing as far as mlb was concerned. Jeter has always been distant while being respectful. If Jeter opens up to media and fans like Rivera did, he will get same treatment.
02-12-2014 , 07:01 PM
lol at Jeter not leaving for money, poor guy

I think Mariano rehabbing after losing a season just to make the final farewell might have played a role in the pageantry of it all as well.

wtf at jeter not leaving for money.. at any point could he have gotten more money by leaving than what he got from yankees? and like already mentioned, he opted out to make yankees pay more this year while they were (at the time) trying to get under luxury cap
02-12-2014 , 07:12 PM
Can't wait for Ramiro Pena and Shawn Kelley to come out and yank Jeter with 2 outs left in his last home game.
02-12-2014 , 07:48 PM
You guys know how much the Yanks make off Jeter's name right?
