This is a horrible way to judge trades, unless you have the ability to go to 2019 and then come back really fast to tell everybody what happens.

Yeah, we clearly have issues understanding things.

We could argue the semantics of it all day long, but at the end of the day, they're comparable based on 2015 alone, and regardless of who is better, it's not like one is good and the other is bad or anything. Inciarte for Miller would have been a pretty reasonable trade on it's own.

Regardless, Miller has a career 9.1 WAR over 3 seasons, Inciarte has 8.9 career over just under 2 seasons. There's certainly a good argument to be made, right or wrong.

Miller is definitely better than Inciarte. Miller still has upside. Perhaps even elite upside. Inciarte doesn't. This is probably who he is, which is fine, but he's not becoming a star.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if Shelby keeps getting better.

Now of course throwing in Swanson and Blair makes the trade brutal for Arizona. But that's because they're both top prospects. Certainly Inciarte + something of value but less than Swanson and Blair would've been fair

Walker for niese seems like a good deal for both teams. In a vacuum pirates probably win but mets have basically no use for niese and will benefit from having walker until younger guys are ready to step in next year

Dave Stewart: "When you look at Shelby Miller, you're looking at a guy who was traded for Jason Heyward, who is worth $200 million"

+1, Pit "wins" but I'm pretty sure Niese could have been had for less than a year of Walker at any point in the last year+, so win/win.

As far as the Miller trade I'm still trying to wrap my head around it, almost seems like collusion or something (or something most likely being gross negligence and utter stupidity). That said look past the 1st OA pick and other top 50 prospect throw ins (lol) and I don't think you can really judge Miller for Inciarte by war vs war. Ari is trying to win now and no team that is really going for it is going to stand pat with Ray/De la Rosa 3/4. A rotation upgrade simply had to be made.

I hope my post above didn't convey that, because it's not what I was arguing. It's certainly a point you can make, just not a point I was making. Fangraphs version of WAR is much lower on Inciarte, for example.

No, wasn't addressing your post. In fact I agree with everything you said.

The mets only want one year they feel Herrera will be ready. And it's basically a salary wash so the mets allegedly still have 20 mill or so to spend for 2016

And yes I'm happy with that return for niese. Wouldn't be surprised if they now resign Bart for swing man

Steamer now has Philly at 17 WAR, worst position players in baseball (8.7) and worst pitching in baseball (8.3) and I think 5.6 WAR for Hellickson, Eifhoff, and Nola is very generous.

Well after this curious Asdrubal signing I wouldn't be surprised to see someone out the door now

Love the Lawrie deal. WS have to be courting volatility w that roster and that's a good description of a player who could 4 or -1 WAR and it not be shocking either way

Trade the MVP with 3 years of control left for Lawrie

Trade Lawrie for 2 mid level pitching prospects

Astros got off light for Giles. Although it seems dumb of them to give up a hard throwing pitcher like Velasquez who could easily slot into the bullpen or rotation again next year. Also I'd be shocked if Oberholtzer comes around to be better than middle relief.
