Maybe he was more of a compiler than peak to get to the Hall, maybe he used his position in media to advance his HOF case, as he wasn't first ballot, but there's no denying he had an incredible career and baseball life.

He became the Vin Scully of Braves Country after Skip and Pete died and he moved exclusively to radio. Many games I listened to were for him more than the Braves.

He'd always joke about how many games he lost and how hopeless he was at the plate. Brought his small town Alabama boy spin to every game. Lots of stories. He was born in the same small town as George Wallace, vut was in most ways the exact opposite kind of man.

I held out hope even though he'd not called a game in 2 years. They always kept saying he was still part of the team and hoped to be back. I can still hear his recap and signoff from the final game he called. I was in my truck, behind a grocery store parking lot in Florida, looking for an empty trailer that wasn't there.

He led the league in WHIP four times and K/BB three times

Just a very quick look at Sutton's stats show dude was a beast with an awesome whip, but not an elite ERA or era+ and not much love in the awards and ASGs. Eating all of those innings may have some all important W's and cost him many cya votes.
