NEW YORK -- Giancarlo Stanton is keeping the remaining $218 million and seven guaranteed years in his New York Yankees contract rather than opt out after a pair of injury-decimated seasons.
you love to see it. MLB covers up for them(for now) doing the same thing the Astros and many other teams were doing, and those shitbirds still haven't raised a pennant in over a decade. Now they have this brilliant albatross of a contract holding them back for another decade. Their catcher of the future is a complete bust. And their "super deep" roster from 2017 when they were stealing signs with cameras has nothing to show for it. gg ge.

Chris Archer's $11 million option for 2021 has been declined by the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the 32-year-old right-hander is now a free agent.

Archer will receive a $250,000 buyout, completing a contract he agreed to with the Tampa Bay Rays in April 2014.
Quote:
Archer reported discomfort in the neck/shoulder area on his right side shortly before spring training was stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic and had season-ending surgery on June 2 with Dr. Robert Thompson to relieve symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome. Archer's prorated pay in the pandemic-shortened season was reduced to $3,333,333.

In his big league career, Archer is 60-80 with a 3.86 ERA in 210 starts and two relief appearances. His average fastball velocity dropped from 95.75 mph in 2017 to 93.30 mph in 2019.

He seems to still have too much potential to not slightly remold himself and have one more good dominant year. Someone will obviously take a flyer.

Part of the Stanton trade had MIA retaining some of the contract if he stays on the contract, right?

LOL, it's MLBs fault that Justin Turner didn't socially distance with COVID because they didn't assign security to keep him away from other people?

The Phils popped into my head first, no idea what they have to offer. Why the **** is Cleveland still pouting about getting cheated out of a WS 5 years ago?

Reads this on MLBTR yesterday

Quote:
The Phillies expect to be slow-movers as well, per the Athletic’s Meghan Montemurro. Team President Andy MacPhail – who for now remains the top decision-maker in the baseball ops department – said in reference to the Phillies’ plans for free agency (per Montemurro), “…the likelihood of a significant add, I think, in the short term or even midterm is not very high.”
Now you'd expect him to say that and Lindor's not a FA, but they do have Realmuto to sign and Lindor will get 20 million in arb. Whoever owner is the least stingy will have a huge chance to massively improve this off-season.

After the Indians flip Lindor do they actually see a better chance to win(or be more profitable) in the next 6 or so years, than they do next season if they just keep him?

Depends on the return. They simply cannot afford to pay him or risk getting no return.

I think he'd be a better manager if he was drunk. Sort of like how Peter Griffin was a world class pianist on Family Guy when he was drunk.

Prolly why the White Sox hired him.
