lollll Phillies, what ******s.

Rainman,

You seem to be too caught up on BA, HR and RBI. In baseball the most important things are to not get out(OBP) and to get other people out(Play good defense). Ryan Howard is not good at either.(He's not bad at OBP, but nothing special for a 1b)

He is only good at hitting the ball very hard and far, though this does have a lot of value and it's the reason he is in the MLB. Unfortunately he is one of the least valuable starters in all of baseball against lefties, which hurts a lot of his value to the team.(.313 career OBP, poor fielding and below average power for a 1b) He also is possibly the worst asset to have in the league considering his contract.

Cliffs: Ryan Howard is a very overpaid poor fielding platoon player with a big ass ****ing nose

His defense has improved since last year, his one real problem is he still can't throw the ball to second base. While he sucks hitting against lefties for most of his career, he his hitting .273 this year, not great but not terrible. Did he receive too much money, yes, but no ball player is worth that much money. Need a cap in baseball.

yea I guess not. Hopefully Howard looks into WAR and sees he needs to be better for the amount of cash he is raking in. I'd still take him on my team over most 1B. Hell he already has a WS ring along with ROY, MVP, and NLSC MVP....and he does them cool Subway commercials....

I wonder which Philly GM has ****ed up more over the last 12 months, Amaro or Paul Holmgren?

Cliff Lee= $9M in 2010
Oswalt= $7M remaining in 2010 & $16M in 2011 + $3M for buy-out (total cost= $1M for 1.33 years of service of Oswalt)

I don’t understand Amaro’s thinking I guess.
In July 2009, he wants to win World Series so he trades prospects to acquire Cliff Lee.

December 2009, Amaro wants Roy Halladay and trades 3 prospects to get him and agrees to pay him $20M/year for three years.

A trade for Halladay would unquestionably make the Phillies the favorite in the NL and alongside Cliff Lee possibly favorites to win it all. Seeing that he traded his top prospects to acquire Lee and soon Halladay, he decides to deal Cliff Lee.

Amaro trades Cliff Lee for 3 prospect, most believe these prospects are worse than the ones given up for Lee, but Lee lead them to WS so will say that was worth it the downgrade in prospects.

Amaro signs Howard to 5 yr. $25/yr. extension, dumbfounds everyone in baseball.
Cliff Lee traded to Texas for a group of prospects that are considered better than what Philly received. Even if prospects even, cost yourself .5 yrs of Cliff Lee services.

Amaro realizes he needs pitching help trades for Roy Oswalt giving up prospects.

Moral of the story Amaro is an idiot.

This seems like it'd be hugely underachieving at this point. 10 IP 0 H 0 ER and SD still finds a way to lose the game, imo.

Pretty sure that chick behind the Latos jersey could throw 8 scoreless against the LA Offense at the moment.

Well obviously the Lee/Halladay debacle was ******ed, this highlights just how ******ed it was but we all knew that anyway.

Then the Howard deal was another terrible decision, again, no one disputing that.

But I don't see why this one is so bad? If anything, it seems almost like an acknowledgment that he screwed up trading Lee and he's doing his best to rectify it.

Now Singleton isn't a part of the deal anymore (at least last I've heard), I'm under the impression that we don't have to pick up the option, and the Astros picking up $11 million means we're not AS hamstrung financially going forward.

The Phuture Phillies blog guy, who's usually pretty good/objective and not really a homer said:

Quote:
If it is in fact Happ, Worley and Gose for Oswalt plus a ton of cash, its a massive win for the Phillies. Absolutely massive.
And if it's Villar instead of Worley then that can't make too much of a difference.

It seems to me, and this might be misguided, that we have a legitimate window to win World Series' right now, and this trade improves our chances of doing that imo.

I feel like everyone's thinking "Amaro's a complete moron, Amaro made this trade, therefore this trade is stupid" which doesn't necessarily have to be the case.
