Probably pretty good that U of C turned me down then, as I had the worst study habits of anyone I knew.

Yeah a lot of baseball/football players at rice had cheesy majors like sports management and kinesiology and weren't really held to the same standard IMO generally speaking but w/e

Tough standards compared to what? I got my master's from Tulane and taught/TA'd a bunch of athletes. Some were better students than others, most were not as good as the average Tulane student, none were idiots. Also, Tulane football coaches have complained that Tulane doesn't have much in the way of "jock majors." Obviously athletes have access to tons of counseling and tutoring that average students can't get, but it was a far cry from the kind of "rocks for jocks" type of stuff you hear about at the big public universities.

How it compares to Vandy, Stanford, etc., I don't know. (Also, FWIW, I remember someone posting about this guy a few years ago. He had an offer from Stanford, but check out his ACT score.)

but when you have like 10 specialty coaches its not a stretch to suggest hiring one guy to tell you not to kick a PAT when ur down 2 late in the 4th qtr.
or not to call time out after a TD but before the PAT attempt to save 5 yards for your kicker.

or you know just don't let ******s be head coach.
I agree thats how it should be. I was just getting into how it is/why it is that way.
Thw issue with this is that a lot of HCs don't call plays on either side of the ball, so in reality game management is most of their job so they don't want to outsource it. Then you get into the fact that most head coaches probably don't know what the term "standard deviation" means and it makes sense they manage the game about as well as the average guy in a casino plays blackjack.

The rocks classes aren't just for athletes. Unis have to quarantine the dullards who outplayed the admissions office. They often have rich daddies, so you need to keep them in the fold.

I feel like a lot of people think "check the analytics" means "check them to see what they say". I'm correct in assuming it means "check the analytics" like you "check your coat" when going into a club, right?

Saying stems from earlier this year, some dumb announcer said that a dumb NFL coach checked the analytics and then kicked. I don't recall any of the other details right now.

Going to an ivy league school doesn't guarantee you aren't an idiot and make terrible decisions (cough cough Jason Garrett)

Tulane is not hard. When I saw some of the work in the "difficult classes" I was shocked at how basic it was. They also have basically no class in the Spring semester which does make it a GOAT school to attend. They get the Jewish holidays off, Mardi Gras Break, Spring Break, and Easter Break plus their profs cancel random classes around Mardi Gras due to wanting to go to minor parades they have friends in or being hungover and not expecting people to show up.

Urban Meyer and timeouts. It's like he doesn't understand that you can use them to stop the clock when you're on defense.

Urban Meyer used his first timeout with the clock stopped and 90 seconds left in a game he was losing. Then he took his remaining two timeouts home with him. Clemson committed a penalty after 1st down with 30 seconds left. It was 2nd down, 28 seconds, OSU with 2 timeouts. Clemson knelt and Urban let the clock expire

Urban Meyer literally decided he had enough football for today and would rather go home

Edit: Apparently the scoreboard was incorrect and OSU only had one timeout.

Urban still used an earlier timeout when the clock was stopped after a false start, after letting Clemson run the clock down before the false start.

a little late but just stumbled across this gem:

from the "Sea of Hands" game (raiders-dolphins 1974 playoffs).
Raiders down 21-26, score a miracle TD to go ahead 27-26 with 24 seconds left. McCarthy kicks the extra point.

What was he supposed to do? The 2 point conversion didn't exist in the NFL until 1994.
