Yea I wondered why not pitch out the pattern was pretty clear. Catcher did make contact a couple times, didn't get the call ump said it's not interference if batter is in the batters box. I don't know if the coach told the pitcher to brush back or he did it on his own.

When we were 10 years old my team made it to states. The first game of the state tournament we faced a team from Negaunee and every single batter of there's would not only fake bunt, but would wave the bat wildly all over the zone until our pitcher threw the first strike of the at bat. I remember everyone going crazy but the ump said it was legal, which im sure it technically is.

It messed our pitchers up so bad.

I remember pitching in 8th grade and my coach specifically told me if a batter squares around to bunt throw directly at his head. He was an old. The conversation then went like, "Really?" "Yes REALLY. Throw the ball at his face. Do you understand that?" Cool lessons these old timers were teaching us.

I don't know how much this has to do with this thread, but I remember in high school baseball everyone always had sunflower seeds. Then one day a guy on my team walks up and asks if I want some red hot Tic Tacs. I say sure, shake like 4 out, start chewing them, they taste awful and I spit them out and he starts laughing. I asked him what the hell they were and he says, "Sudafed." Guy was just rolling around with like 100 Sudafed pills all hopped up for the game. Later his dad got busted for growing like 200 pot plants. I'll see myself out.

No, it was for any bunt attempt, anytime. I didn't understand it then and I don't now. I think these old guys might have just been bored and wanted to watch a brawl erupt.

At 3-4, surely your kids aren't the only ones throwing dirt? Such a massive difference between that and 5-6.

I've never heard of 3-4 year olds playing baseball. Especially other than Teeball. I can't even imagine.

Down 14-10 with 1:42 left, my son drove his 8th grade team 82 yards in a minute and threw the game winning TD on 4th down.

Not going to lie, it was a pretty cool moment. I was going to post this at the end of the year but with only one game left I am going to go ahead and post it.

To give you some backstory, my son decided he wanted to transfer schools starting in 7th grade. There is a very sports centric school/community about 30 minutes from us and he has grown up around that program and after much debate we decided we could make it work. It is very competitive in football, they have won 6 state titles in 12 years and only one of the last 6 QB's did not play D1. The two current QB's, a Soph and Jr, both have D1 offers already.

My son started on one of the two 7th grade teams, but in 8th grade they combine into one team. Entering 8th grade there were three QB's fighting for the job. My son was the starter through the Spring and into the Summer and then the Fall. The week before his first game he was demoted to 2nd string. In the first game this year he played 2 snaps at the end of the game. It was hard to stomach, especially when you feel like your son is the better player. However, he handled it extremely well. He was a good teammate and he was always engaged in the game. He congratulated the other QB when he did well. It made us proud parents, but it was still a very bitter pill to swallow and after the game we really had to pump him back up.

Our next game we lost an 8-6 game to a 9th grade team. Their only score was a pick 6. My son was put in the game and moved the ball, but his two drives were both bogged down due to penalties. Game 3 he was playing against the school he was supposed to attend. This was going to be the tough one. This was against all of his friends and baseball teammates. He would have started for their 9th grade this year had he attended there, but here he is as the backup at his school. The other QB struggled early and my son got his first legitimate shot and he threw it all over the field. We won 21-6 and he threw for 2 TD's.

The next two games they rotated QB's and they both struggled against the best team in the area and we lost 6-0. The following game we played the other good team and lost a shootout 33-28. This game was the turning point for my son. All 4 TD's were with him at QB and the rotation stopped late in the 3rd quarter. The next day at practice he was told he was now the starter.

His first game as starter was against an 8th/9th combo team and we lost 34-28. We couldn't run on them so we threw it 29 times for over 200 yards and 2 TD's. He played every snap but one.

I say all of that to say this. At the end of the day it is 8th grade sports and it doesn't matter that much in the grand scheme of things. But, I think my son learned one of the most valuable lessons of his life. He learned to fight for what he wants and to not quit. He learned that life isn't fair and when it doesn't go your way, you still have to handle yourself with class and be a great teammate. I never understood why he was demoted and probably never will, but in the big picture this could have been one of the best things to ever happen to him. It made the game winning TD pass last night that much sweeter.

Until now, I've always called the kids I teach swim to 'my kids.' Coming this April, I'll have a child of my own. I'm very, very excited.

I've always wanted a girl. Pretty emotionally invested at this point, so I had to hedge. Bet 2,500 on boy; still want that girl. Laid +103 to the bettors. Emotionally hedged (somewhat). Reveal coming on Sunday

That's a great story, gonna have my son read it when he gets home from school. After your son was demoted did he sit on the bench or did he still play but at another position? Usually when you have 2 talented kids competing for the same position on any team one of them ends up leaving and playing fora different team so he can get his playing time, were you considering that if they kept him 2nd string?

The best part of the story is his sportmanship, which I've struggled with my son. He's the classiest kid in the world when everything's going well, but he is not a good loser. If he was ever benched I don't think he would handle it well like your son. On his travel baseball team they bat 12 and play 9 in the field, they are all very good players so 3 guys have to sit every inning and the coach keeps it pretty even, but when it is his turn to sit he is not happy.

Sunday at his travel hockey game the other team was on a PP and he stole the puck and broke out, ref was not in best position on the breakaway he shoots hits the top left crossbar and the puck comes out but looked like it crossed but ref called no goal. They won 4-1 but he didn't score, when he comes out of the locker room after the game I say nice game he says" That idiot ref screwed me!" Doesn't focus on anything good he did just wants to act like a jerk over one call.

That is great that your son is a good sport, hopefully my son can learn to be a better sport.

Don't doubt it, just remarking on the "2,1" discussion and people ****ting on the names other posters chose for their children (seriously, have some ****ing common sense) on the first (99 post) page. Antisocial jackassery.

The harsh reality for my son is that in football it is QB or bust. He has an arm and good size, but he is not overly athletic. He could be a backup at some other positions such as WR, but there isn't a starting spot anywhere out there for him outside of QB. The other QB is in the same boat. When my son was the backup, he sat the whole game until the last two snaps. The last two games the other QB has played one snap on offense, but has been able to play some LB due to injuries.

As far as being a good sport, my kid has not always been the best either. I think puberty has helped him and also the athletic program he is in will not tolerate poor body language. They kicked the best athlete in his class off the team last year for a bad attitude. That will get the attention of the kids very quickly. My kid put on a great face during the game, but it was a tough ride home after the game.

Might as well put in the brag for my daughter. In 7th grade, she simply wasn't good enough to make her school's volleyball team. She tried out for a club team and made the lower level team. She was a bad server and was always substituted out when it was her turn to serve. But she kept practicing and getting better. By the time 8th grade school volleyball started, she not only made the team, but she was the best server on her team, the coach choosing her to start every set as the server.

She got to high school and on her first day of summer practice (before cuts), she was dejected because she felt that there were way too many good players for her to make her team. But she didn't want to quit and kept going. By the end of the summer practice, she felt like one of the better freshmen there. She made the freshman team And the coach is choosing her to start every set as the server.

Her school's freshman team is currently undefeated with one game left in the season. Unfortunately, only the varsity team makes playoffs. But she is rightfully proud of her freshman team (the team regularly beats the JV team during practice (I think she said they've never lost to JV) and has beaten the varsity team a few times).

It's going to be harder for her next year as the varsity team only has 3 seniors leaving. Her position in particular is stacked, with all the setters from each of the 3 teams returning. But that just makes her want to try harder to improve.

Great stuff, Gus. Our family are big volleyball fans. To give you an idea of how sports crazy my sons school is, they are hosting the state volleyball tournament and they had 1500 people there for their game today. Tomorrow is the semis and I bet it gets close to the 2500 capacity.
