Ok now Amla is out!

Let's not forget that Zimbabwe had New Zealand 7 for 157 before rain stopped the game in a warm-up game.

The problem with SA struggling on a bit of a tricky pitch is that you know Steyn can just turn up later and bowl even better on it.

Boorish American here.

Just started watching the world cup, and have some noob questions.

1) Is a "powerplay" the same as fielding restrictions?
2) Do bowlers have to change the side they bowl from every over. I mean, I understand that bowlers bowl from opposite ends in consecutive overs but I'm asking why a spin bowler is bowling from the left side (relative to the TV camera angle) in one over, and then from the right on his next eligible over to bowl. Seems like if would be way better to specialize from one side?
3) Where do the best batsmen bat? And do most teams use the same structure in their batting order (e.g. best guy bats third, bowlers all last,...etc)?

English guy here with noob question

They just said the ground is one of the smallest (60 metres or something to the boundary from the wicket) - The grounds can vary in size!?

1. Yes

2. Bowler can choose which side to bowl from every ball.

3. It depends, usually 3-4 are the best, but there are different skill sets. Worst bats last.

Yeah they vary. Eden park in Auckland is a converted rugby ground so is an odd shape. Dimensions vary a lot.

1) The fielding restrictions vary based on the period of the match. Overs 1-10 you are allowed 2 fielders outside the 30 yard ring (powerplay 1). In power play 2 (batting team chooses when to take it but must be before the 40th over) you are allowed only 3 fielders outside the ring. Any other time you are allowed at most 4 fielders outside the ring.

2) Not sure I understand the question. But typically a bowler will pick an end and bowl from there the whole match. They might change sides based on situation. In general there is not much difference between sides except the length of the boundries. For example spinners will often the end if the straight boundary is farther on their side.

3) The best batsmen almost always bat between positions 1-4. Positions 1-2 are specialist spots because batting against the new ball is a special skill, and also the 1-2 batsmen should be able to take advantage of the fielding restrictions in overs 1-10.
