wondering how canning the manager will affect the barca-real dynamic on the team. I'm guessing that spain just carries on fine and we barely notice anything

I’m not saying it’s correct. I’m saying it’s probably correct. I certainly prefer the Spanish fa president judgment on this over some random guy that probably isn’t even aware of how sensitive Catalans are right now.
This doesn’t mean he is right of course, it may have well been a hurried mistake.

I think that the Spanish team has little dependence on its coach and it mostly about making sure everybody gets along. Since he failed at that he is gone.

This isn’t Brazil where it’s clear that Tite is an important figure to the players.

Reports that this will be Argentina's XI v Iceland: Caballero; Salvio, Otamendi, Rojo, Tagliafico; Mascherano, Biglia; Meza, Messi, Di María; Agüero.

That team's 11.0 to win the WC. Messi worth about 4 players if that's the case.

There was a failed Catalan referendum with violence last year , the political situation is different. It also happens that some very important player are catalans so if they want you gone then you are gone.

Edit: If your point is that the Barcelona players should be more mature about the whole thing then yes , but they clearly were not doing that so as a president you either make a quick change or you watch the team completely unfold.
The political situation is completely irrelevant. This is 100% Rubiales trying to prove his is bigger than Florentino's. It's all about egos and the like. The Spanish FA are among the most incompetent and corrupt institutions in Spain (and that's saying something). Spain won the world cup entirely because of Luis Aragones and entirely inspite of the FA.

It's a shame they didn't have the sense to call Zidane.

A this point Mascherano is probably worth -2 goals, so they need all of Messi.

expect it'll be tough for iniesta and david silva to remember how to pass to a teammate now that there's going to be a different ol' fella on the sideline during their games

yeah but I thought that

Here's what happened. The players tried to stop Rubiales from sacking Lopetegui, especially Iniesta and Ramos. You have to be really dumb to sack him 3 days before the WC AND to appoint Hierro as the new coach. They don't really care how Spain is doing at the WC.

Kubala announced he will be Barcelona's coach 3 days before the Euros and he wasn't sacked. Aragones announced he will coach Fenerbahce during the 2008 Euros. Van Gaal announced he will coach United before the 2014 WC. Conte and Chelsea before the 2016 Euros.

They weren't sacked, of course. This is about Real Madrid and to a certain degree, Florentino. They need "revenge" even if they weaken Spain's NT. RM doesn't care anyway. This is really, really stupid.

Do you think Iniesta, Pique, Busquets etc. wouldn't play exactly the same at the WC, even if they knew Lopetegui will coach RM? They don't care about Spain or Catalunya anyway, they're there for themselves and money. What a bunch of incompetent morons.

I think the fact that the Spanish FA weren't involved, didn't hear about it until 5 minutes before it was announced and the fact they are trying to prove they are on an anti corruption crusade and be seen as more legitimate etc are important details here.

They could have checked if Lopetegui has the La Liga app installed. Then they could have known.

All of the Spanish FA, Lopetegui and RM are looking like donkeys right now imo.

That Argentina team looks awful. Just Messi and a bunch of no names. Even Aguero is complete crap for the NT.

Nah. I can remember a Vögts quote about when to kick off a football match and when to shoot a western movie. He was mad.

But they probably won't schedule games in some scorching Texan heat again.

How many of those managers signed a two year extension for the national team three weeks beforehand and then not tell the FA they were quitting?

I think firing him is incredibly stupid and petty but lol at comparing any of those cases to this
