Sport (Barcelona based newspaper) is saying Ramos wanted Lopetegui to stay but the rest of the team didn’t.

This isn’t like the Spanish fa fired a guy that the players love. Like baids points out Iniesta already knows how to pass the ball to Silva.

Given that Iniesta already knows that then that means at least 40% of the job is to make sure the Madrid crowd gets along with the Catalan crowd, he failed pretty badly at that job , he deserves the sacking.

I personally think Sampaoli was a bad pick for Argentina. IMO the correct choice was some ultra defensive guy whose plan is to make the back 8 defend properly and that they can give the ball to the front 3 hoping they find ways to win.

I am pretty sure Simeone is the only guy capable of sorting out Argentina's mess.

Spain outright odds before Lopetegui's sacking 7.6. Odds now 7.6.

Managers confirmed worthless.

Mexico City is at elevation and temps are never hot, June/July is a bit rainy though.

Guadalajara is also at elevation, temps are a bit higher than CDMX, but not extreme.

Monterrey is the one would that will be really hot and will probably have to avoid midday kickoffs.

None of them have domes.

That Argentina team looks awful. Just Messi and a bunch of no names. Even Aguero is complete crap for the NT.
they should play messi as a false 9 and make room for dybala. aguero and higuain always let them down and it's bad for balance to have both messi and a useless striker walking around without doing much defensive walk

England played all of their group matches in Monterrey in 1986. The players lost a hell of a lot of weight during the matches.

I remember the Brazil kickoff times fine, they were pretty great, but aren't LA or Vancouver another two timezones to the west?

Yes. 3 hours behind EST (NYC). Brazil also had multiple time zones and doesn't do daylight savings time so the gap is always fluctuating

NFL has homogenised start times regardless of time zones. The latest game starts at like 1.30am though.

2026 games will probably start between 7-10pm EST on weekdays

would be a little surprised if they started earlier than 3pm EST on weekends, but maybe they'll do that for the world audience
as said above, Sunday NFL games start at 1pm EST
could maybe even go an hour earlier for the WC if they wanted to
could also maybe start (west coast) Fri/Sat games as late as midnight EST if that helps

There'll be 48 teams. I'm not sure how many additional games that means but I find it hard to believe that the first 48 team cup would also be the first without games starting at ~3pm local time, weekday or not. They also won't let Germany, England, France etc play games at 1AM CET. Way too many games to put all of them in the "normal" murican sports time window.

12, 3, and 6 seems reasonable on weekends. Forget what the start times were in 94 but remember seeing games in the early afternoon

one thing they could do is have an unbalanced schedule and load up games on the weekends

no problem at all with running games from noon to midnight EST

if none of those times work for euros then get ****ed

Read an article suggesting it's 48 teams, 16 groups of 3 with top 2 into a round-of-32 knock out and so on. That means 16 more games than currently.

Seems like a bit of a nonsense structure, but if you're going with 48 teams you're going to end up with nonsense.

48 teams is ok if they just go 12 groups of 4 and sort out the rankings so less groups of death, as the actual top 12 who qualify are in each of the groups.
12 winners and best 4 second places.

But they wont and will make the group stages meaningless.

Current system is ideal in making qualifying not automatic, and giving the smaller teams who make it more of chance to get out the groups.

Lopetegiu signed a contract extension with the Spanish FA through 2020 approximately three weeks ago. They have good reason to be pissed at him and Florentino. That doesn't mean they reacted well. They reacted like the corrupt, incompetent morons they are.

Yea it's so dumb and the structure is even worse. If they're going to expand they should have a knockout round for all the last teams to qualify simultaneous to the group or something. This groups of 3 with 2 advancing is dumb. Variance increased!

I agree on the pre-group knock out. There is some idea of a play-in tournament for one team from every conference except UEFA but played the year before to replace the confederations cup, so doesn't help with the 48 team nonsense.

They're in favour of the 16*3 system as it's fewer matches (24 fewer), so the competition doesn't have to be much longer - if at all. I guess there's just not enough time in the calendar for a 5-6 week world cup.
