Karl Malone (Lakers)
Hank Aaron (Brewers)
Dale Murphy (Phillies)

I'm sure there are a bunch more but it seems to happen in football a lot.
Aaron doesn't fit this list as well as the others because he did play most of his career in Milwaukee, even it was for a different franchise. He was a "Milwaukee" Braves icon more than an "Atlanta" Braves icon.

and you think Favre doesnt have any thing left. your Crazy he should stay retried bc he officaly retried and would rely **** over somebody. thats the only reason he should stay away from the game not bc he has nothing left. the pack made the playoffs last year he clearly has something left bc in football the team goes where the Qb takes them in most Cases. of course there are expections to every rule but the pack of last year arent an exacepttion to this rule. so i dont want to hear what about the Bears super bowl team or any other exacepttion to the this statment. its true in most cases you can't deny that.

I can deny ANYTHING.

Favre is well on his way from guts-and-glory to prima donna with all this retirement drama, imo. Four or so years ago when he started all his bs retirement talk, I made the statement that he would have more retirements than Muhammad Ali, to the point of being ridiculously embarrassing. That's exactly what he's doing. His whims are more important than the enormous planning and investment of the Green Bay Packers regarding the position of QB, that's for damn sure.

As a Viking fan I am gleeful that this distraction is going on for the Packers and specifically Rodgers. And to think we get him week 1 MNF, his first ever start while they are retiring Favres jersey [as of now]. This is going to be great.

I don't think Favre will come back, but I welcome the distraction for their team. If he comes back with a different team that would be even better!

he still only retired once so your predicition is til wrong. mutilable retirements is common in the boxing world but it only affects one person they dont **** anyone over when they do this.

I mean all the threatening to retire bs after every season. The (currently) four year drama, and running. The Packers are sick of it. That pretty much says it all.
07-05-2008 , 08:03 PM
well ok im sick of it as well, but its still only one retriement so far.

You're probably right but history is absolutely littered with all-time greats who can't bring themselves to retire playing out their final days in obscurity with a team other than the one they'd played their whole career. I mean ****ing littered. Just off the top of my head:

- H. Olajuwon (Raptors)
- Emmitt Smith (Cardinals)
- Johnny Unitas (Chargers)
- Willie Mays (Mets)
- Dave Cowens (Bucks)
- Patrick Ewing (Sonics/Magic)
- Derek Jeter (TBD)
- Steve Carlton (half the AL)
- Babe Ruth (Braves)

etc. Some of those guys weren't quite as iconic as Favre but all are typically identified with a single team, and some are the most popular player in that franchise's history.

LOL, it just cracks me up that the Packers are like "wtf are you doing, we don't want you back".

Also, I'm so goddamned sick of faux retirements. There should be a rule, if you say you're done, you're done. It was so painfully obvious when Roger Clemens walked off the mound in Miami in 2003 that he wasn't serious about quitting, but everyone had to put on a dog-and-pony show anyway.

Heres what I think happened, most of this is LDO.

-Favre enters last season knowing it will be his last [starting at least] regardless of how he plays because A. Rodgers is entering his final yr of his contract and there is no chance that they just let the former 1st rounder just walk into free agency after never seeing him play.
-Ted Thompson basically pushes him out the door.
-Favre still wants to play but doesn't want to screw anybody in the GB organization over. If they wanted him back he never would of retired. If he's coming back it's obviously for a different team, which won't tarnish his career but will be funny as hell.

I think there is a "v" in there or something but its a stupid way to spell it so I dont blame you.

I'm a Viking fan and I for one would absolutely love to have Favre. Favre with a running back like AP? Super Bowl baby, Super Bowl.
07-08-2008 , 04:48 PM
Favre -> Vikings would be incredibly awesome just for the attendant drama. Make this happen please.
07-08-2008 , 05:09 PM
Even as someone who doesn't really care about any NFC North teams, seeing Favre in a Vikes jersey would probably lifetilt the hell out of me for some reason.

Brett Farve doesn't give a **** about anything other than Brett Farve.
He could care less about the Packers or the FO etc.

I think Rodgers, at this point, bails at the end of his contract no matter what. He has probably lost millions of dollars at this point in incentive clauses and he was probably the better QB between AS and himself.

If I were another team I would be more concerned with trying to trade for Rodgers than I would be with trying to trade for Farve.

Unless you have a solid running game Farve will suck/be average. He'll start to force it and it will be INT city.
