Assorted respected tweeters are saying that Carroll, Downing and Defoe are among the players summoned by Hodgson.

Whenever I watch Ruddy he makes huge errors, so I'll pray for Joe Hart remaining fit.

I imagine he'll take Jones as 2nd choice RB/4th choice CB to free up a space to take 5 strikers because of Rooney's suspension.

Keepers - Hart, Green, Ruddy.
Defenders - Baines Cahill Cole Johnson Jones Lescott Terry
Midfielders - Barry Downing Gerrard Lampard Oxlade-Chamberlain Parker Walcott Young Milner
Strikers - Carroll Defoe Rooney Welbeck

no Richards LOL no Holt as expected, still lame though

Chamberlain isn't better then Walcott today. Walcott had a better season then Ox, Young, Lennon etc. Better player then those? Debatable, but the bad rep Theo gets is hugely overdone this year.

I think he'll be great very soon, but not sure if this experience is too soon for him, especially if he never plays.

Couldn't Richards cover the same positions?

Why downing?! He's not going to start... We need a goal, who can we bring on?! DOWNING. Oh wait.

I don't get it with Lennon, pretty much every time I watch Spurs Lennon destroys his LB but it seems no one really rates him.

I have no clue what way England go in the opening 2 games.

Downing getting in the squad speaks volumes as to how bad this England squad really is. Where is Aaron Lennon? I'd have taken Jagielka or Richards ahead of Phil Jones, they can cover RB/CB just as well. The only reason Jones is going is because he is a Man Utd player.

Richards is obviously disliked by people in the FA or someone there. He's been out of favour for a while and it looks like it will continue.

I agree with most of the squad, only changes i'd make would be

Ruddy --------> Carson

Downing --------> Adam Johnson

Only taking 4 strikers with Rooney's suspension is a bit of a risk but there's guys like Walcott and Young who can play there, or of course could play 4-3-3.

Yeah he could but Jones played a few of the qualifiers and performed pretty well.

I rate Lennon below A. Johnson. Can we really say Lennon is great and still harp on theo? Lennon had an ok season, I'm sure Spurs fans would agree there. Not terrible, but they would have wished he stayed healthy and contributed a tad more goals and assists.

Gotta include the "future England captain" early!

Lennon is far more accomplished than Theo. Agree on Johnson. I like him. Spurs have struggled when Lennon has been out. Plus if Downing can make it, Lennon should be a lock. Happy to see Oxlade-Chamberlain. He lacks experience but he's good enough and will be a player for the future

Walcott >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lennon

Not even a contest.

More versatile too.
