Still, as we ponder our centre-half situation The Mail will make you feel better by suggesting we’ve made an enquiry to Aston Villa about Richard Dunne. He’s been unsettled at Villa this season and was dropped from the team for a few weeks after Houllier took over. There were also reports of a training ground bust-up with Gary McAllister. All the same that’s no reason for us to get involved.

Obviously I don’t watch Villa that closely but from what I can gather he was dropped because he was playing like a big cunny. He certainly ticks a number of boxes that Arsene might have on his checklist. Experienced, experienced in the Premier League, very much a stop-gap signing, cheap as chips probably, not very expensive at all, wouldn’t cost very much money, discount value, economical and cut-price.

On the other hand though he also ticks other boxes such as: not that good, as slow as Arseblogger, capable of kicking air instead of the ball, no experience of Champions League football, overly Irish and grows large with food. I know we need a centre-half but surely Richard Dunne is not the answer. It does seem like the kind of signing Arsene would make though. He’ll have looked at the success of Sol Campbell last season, a similarly heavy unit, and thought ‘this could work!’.

And here’s what I’ve just realised – the signing of Sylvester was a piece of long-term planning by Arsene Wenger. He knew that the giant-headed, can’t close his mouth, Frenchman would be such an appalling disaster that any subsequent signings would appear much better than they actually were. Seriously, try it yourself. Sylvester or Richard Dunne? Oooh, Richard Dunne please. Sylvester or Titus Bramble. Gimme that damn, Bramble. Sylvester or that useless Greek serial killer Liverpool have? Serial kill me, baby! Sylvester or 14 stone of goat poo mouled into a basic human shape and covered with a football kit? GOAT PLOP!

LOL Arseblogger

Yea because sheva floping was all about him being a one dimensional goal on a stick merchant and nothing to do with him losing his legs and pace.

Cmon.

Just that over the last few years i've always had the impression they aren't great payers, that plus they must have one of the smallest squads in the league including a lot of players who have come through the youth academy who are usually noton great wages as a result.

About Balotelli,he's just an angry young man,he had a messed up childhood, adopted and iirc point blank refuses to acknowledge his biological parents as anything to do with his life past or present.

I'm sure being a super talented black footballer in Italy wasn't easy or pleasant at times either.

anyone want a kranjcar? we have one surplus to requirements that we need to move. and i have yet to hear a word of speculation about who could buy him. he was one of my favorites last season, will hate to see him go, but he is too good to play virtually none.

During the whole Pienaar thing I was thinking about a straight swap between him and Kranjcar.

would be a pretty awful deal for us. kranky is worth more that 2.5-3m

official site has finally confirmed pienaar. now that probably just leaves the striker business. what is with the lack of movement by most clubs though? not even trying to find anything. arsene, do you hear me? don't you need a defender or two? thought chelsea might snag someone too.

i read something a week or so ago that Celtic were interested, he would be a great addition for us.

unlikely we buy him tho.

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but USA's own (well, kind of) Jermaine Jones signs for Blackburn on loan. Interesting.

Good for him.

I'd imagine he's happy that he'll get some first team looks after being banished to the reserves in Germany

Blackburn making a statement of intent with that move imo.

it seems our recent transfer strategy has been along the lines of keeping the press in absolute darkness, wait until 48 hours before the window closes, then overpay for a slightly above average player

I think it's mostly down to the squad of 25 thing.

Now if you want someone in you have to get someone out(or have them sitting doing nothing for 6 months) whereas before you could just add one more.

Saying that U-21's don't have to be registered so i'm sure most clubs have spaces/could create them.

paging kit,

i posted your most efficiency/usage chart on another forum in response to a spurs fan saying they need a new striker, and he replies:

Whilst I don't disagree with your conclusion on our strikers, that table looks pretty **** - Drogba near the bottom and Harewood near the top are two of the most obvious issues but far from the only ones.

discuss?
01-18-2011 , 08:41 PM
He's a spurs fan, just ignore him.
01-18-2011 , 08:42 PM
chart needs a larger sample size

yeah. its a valid point that is very obvious to everyone. except that guy maybe, although he may have known the reason for the inaccuracy and just not spelled it out.

do you actually think that this wouldn't have occurred to kit when doing it?

more then anything its to hopefully provoke discussion. Kit already noted the skew on harewood because of the goal spew that harewood had at the beginning of the season

Babel sold to Hoffenheim.

obviously it would. i even said it was obvious to just about everyone. it is a good way to quantify quality, it just lacks sufficient sample. it is still relevant and can be used to analyze short term performance.
