Arsenal have finished 8th the last two years and have started really poorly, you think that 7th is "the minimum" this season?

Will happily wager on Arsenal finishing 8th or lower.

I bet you would, who wouldnt?

Apologies if I put that wrong. Our goal should be at least 7th after such a **** season last time round. Think it was AO who said there are virtually no expectations on Lego Pep, so it was a response to that.

You cant spend 300mill and have the only improvements be seen on the wage bill and only through people you let go for free. Something needs to be seen on the pitch and I dont see it.

You also need to get players on your side to try and perform to the best of their abilities - maybe that ship has sailed too. Time will tell.

Obviously you'd want to finish higher than 8th. But our best lineup has between 2 and 4 starters over 25. It's a very young team. I'd rather we finished 8th but ESR, Saka etc seemed to take a leap then grinding out results and getting 6th while the kids look average.

It's obviously OK to have higher expectations than I do.

How many of those under 25s do you think really have the potential to be starters in a top 4 team though? Saka does obviously. Tierney prob.

I mean, you just have to give them minutes and find out. This time last year I didn't even think ESR was PL quality but he clearly is.

Willian provided more assists (5) and created the joint-most Big Chances (5) than any other Arsenal player since the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season

now a corinthians player, problem solved for arsenal i guess

Problem is, even if the kids are the real deal, Arsenal have to get lucky with timing or they'll be gone once Arsenal have a real team around them. Obviously not a new issue for the club but with Wenger you had top 4 and young players that could've won the league if they'd all come up/stayed together. Now the same is happening one category further down the table

Didn't 3 of those assists come on his debut?

**** off. Good riddance. Thank god.

That’s the end of my beef with him though. If I were a 31 year old out of contract washed up footballer and Daffy Duck offered me 3 years and 230k in London and then coach Ralph Wiggum told me we were gonna win the Champions League, I’d have signed the piece of paper and then mailed it in too.

Agree with pretty much every word of this post.

Not that it would ever happen, but I wish to god we’d go back to Roma, tail between our legs, and see if they’d still take him for £10m. He is a disgrace and in no universe should be allowed to still play for us.

His value is “protected” now with the extension, right?

Finding someone who'd pay €10m for him ought to be possible, he isn't as woeful as he appears at Arsenal, for Switzerland he's usually quality.

Another problem is his, for most clubs, high salary that I doubt anyone would match, so unless he willingly takes a pay cut (or begins performing) he won't be easy to offload.

Willian's exit message was decently classy. Think both he and the club thought he had ~2 years left at this level. He did not.

did he get a buyout, or just walk away clean?

saw somewhere that he had like £20m left on his contract

He walked away clean, apparently.

Ok fair play to him. Not sure I would agree something like that when I'm 33 finished and they are giving me 220+/pw...maybe Edu promised him some role in Brazil after he ends his career.

Anyhow we are rid of him and he is off the sinking ship. Should not have been brought over in the first place. Chelsea were not giving him 2+ years for a reason.

Yea sent the 10 over PC! gg

Also somewhat related question: What did we agree on re: fpl bets? Do we do a winner take all 50eur pool with the interested players or should it remain h2h with the interested posters?

So far if Im not mistaking I have the following booked/confirmed for FPL:

1point/1eur up to 400eur vs Cina
100 eur vs KW and miccheck finish higher
50 eur vs Chop
25 eur vs deuce

Then we have that 20 quid draft.

Then Clayton, TP and a bunch of others expressed interest in 50 eur sidebets and I'm not sure if we booked h2h or winner take all? Cheers.

Without knowing what is going on behind the scenes you can see why he is frustrated, he seems to want to play some first team football. Hopefully they can resolve this.

Maybe we should sell him to clubs that want to play him.

Did not think the incompetence would be so glaring these years. Reject 20mill for him last year, wonder how much Everton proposed? Potentially a loan with option to buy?

Also Nketiah who was in his last contract year was rejected to join CP cause apparently we overvalued him.

Of course we dont know what is actually happening, but I think we overvalue these fringe players and playing hard to get with them. Like it is obvious we want to sell these players, it is a shitty spot, but wont be less shitty next year as it also will be obvious that we want to sell or they will leave for free eventually. Keeping players without a plan just leads to these desperate pleas.

AMN should be our RB but he wanted to play in MF. I personally would have given him a shot vs some Xhaka minutes, but in the minutes he has played he's basically AWB as a FB, but he's not great as a MF.

Indeed. The clubs that do well in the transfer market seem to be the ones that manage to get silly numbers for fringe players - Tottenham being a prime example. We never seem to get any money for anyone - the only material sale I can think of where we were happy to see the player go was Diangana, unless we've paid a fortune for them before and are selling for half what we paid.
