I think Spurs is overachieving by some margin, but Nuno seems like a top bloke.

The Lego Pep saga on the other hand seems eerily familiar with the Emery situation. Players making public comments or leaking stuff about inside problems and struggles - I doubt he'll last until December.

It's wild that for ~6 years Arsenal has had to take a step back, stop signing people like Luiz, Willian, Auba, Cedric etc, then when they lean into youth, combined with a covid outbreak and some injuries and people are panicking.
Arsenal are in a significantly better spot than a year ago, or two years ago. They just don't have the post Wengef shine or recent FA cup, but not having a bloated wage bill of 30 year olds was terrible long term.

It would be much easier for Arsenal to do what Spurs are doing and put their long term ceiling at 4th.

Wolves have surprised me, they've been the better team in each match and are better so far than Nunos new team.

As far as the kids will take them. If you think Saka, ESR, Odegaard, White and others are really good they could be back in the top 4 in 2 years. If they're not it is going to be quite a while. It's still better than playing Willian or turning down 150m for a player.

How are we going to handle these payouts for the sweep then? It seems crazy for everyone to ship £7.50 to PC in Yankland(?) and £2.50 to me in the UK.

No arguments with the latter, but I just don't see how they get above fourth even with the kids hitting their potential. Not that getting back to that mark would be bad, but it just seems unrealistic that they get above City, Chelsea and Utd. I'm not even including Liverpool as they're getting older and if they don't hit on transfers as they have in the past there's a universe where Arsenal can overtake them.

Two years I don't see happening at all - realistically it seems like the Spurs or Arsenal approach only gets you potentially touching fourth. And if you don't get it the kids can get lured away by bigger contracts and Champions League

I don't buy the whole sit out this season narrative - top7 and some cup hotruns or bust. That should be the minimum.

Not getting back to Europe really fast will hurt us. Top4 is incredibly hard to achieve until Plop/Utd/Chelsea/City/Spurs have the current squad or near to it. We just nowhere near that.

The thing that will slow that progress is keeping the likes of Xhaka for 4 more years. Having players like Calum Chambers who is a Championship quality player for 9 years etc...

Like you have Saliba, even if you dont rate him, lets give a lad a couple of games when the alternative is Kolasinac / Holding / Chambers...dont loan that twat back to france until his contract is up. We have AMN who Wolves (?) wanted to give 20mill for and we said no - to have the guy sit on the bench and go on loan and then repeat the cycle again, now he is begging on social to let him go.

A lot of things that I liked happened this window: We bought young players that can play a bit of football and sold Willock for 20mill which is an absolute awesome price to get for a player like that. Willian/Kolasinac agreed to leave allegedly. Extending ESR/Saka/Martinelli/Balogun etc.

However those mediocre players hanging around for a lifetime is just not something we can do to reach the next level - I would say get back, but it has been so long I think it restarts after a while. We don't need a bunch of Cedric/Mari type players. We need Saliba, Odegaard, Pepe and then upgrade on those. Not have Odegaard bink 2 good season and let him go to City/ManU etc for 15mill.

Moral of this whole story is that extending Xhaka is criminal as it shows we are still hanging onto these mediocre, dare I say, kind of **** players. So all the positives are outdone by stupid **** like this

Ya pretty much. Dead weight ends up playing big games then you have city spanking us 5-0. Get better players and stop renewing the not good enough ones
