Feel better? That's a good representation of difference in success. The Premier League is everything.
Slightly better. League is everything as you say; and I reckon failing to win it this season but challenging (finish 2nd/3rd) is more valuable deep down to you than say finishing 5th or 6th again, nabbing a domestic cup or two and claiming a probable 2nd in the success table.

There is no nuance in this it's black and white.

Two trophies is better than none. League position? Who gives a **** no one cares if both get CL football and you don't win the league.

I look forward to the tortured justifications next year as to why United had the best season.

As a pool fan you should know it all too well.

Didnt United with the 2 cup wins?

You guys make it sound like it is so easy to win these cups... I'm starting to doubt my own perception of them, but let us not forget Spurs said bye to said trny with an embarrassing defeat to Gent.

We need to forget that and only focus on the league then?

Since the Premier League was founded SEVEN teams have closed their old grounds whilst being a Premier League team.

FIVE of those teams had one of their own players score the final ever goal at their grounds.

Southampton (Le Tiss), Arsenal (Terry Henry), Middlesbrough (John Hendrie), West Ham (Winston Reid) and Sunderland (Allan Johnston).

Poor old Derby County were alone for a long time, having to live with Ian Wright being the final scorer at the Baseball Ground.

Spurs have joined them.

White Hart Lane, the final goalscorer, the great, legendary, Wayne Rooney. Spurs should build a statue of him.

Because cups have an element of luck and most people want their club to be continually challenging, rather than having to put all their eggs in the Europa League basket. Winning the PL or the Champions League is king and not many do that after finishing 6th. Still United could do a Leicester next year I guess.

Don't know who you are but that pithy comment is worthless. Can you not get your head aorund it? Two trophies and Champs League qual is better than zero trophies and Champs League qual.

You lot would have struggled to quantify Aston Villa finishing 11th and winning the Champions League.

If you keep saying it it might become true.

Liverpool did it in 2001 plus another trophy (and qualified for the CL through the league) - I don't remember it being called the pinnacle of achievement then.

I don't see anyone calling it the pinnacle of achievement now.

My view is it's pretty irrelevant "who had the best season", and it's telling that it's only the United fans shouting about how their season was good.

Personally as a fan I would judge how happy I was alongside preseason expectations and wanting to see improvement from the last season. A couple of trophies are nice and champions league qualification is great, but it's hard to put a good spin on finishing 6th having spent a ****load of money and being one of the preseason favourites.

2) Liverpool - UEFA Cup winners, FA Cup winners, League Cup winners, Champs League Qual
3) Arsenal - Champs League Qual
4) Ipswich - UEFA Cup Qual
5) Leeds - UEFA Cup Qual
6) Chelsea - UEFA Cup Qual

As a fan I was very happy with the season. Hugely disappointed that we didn't compete for the league, but even in that I was comforted to know that we just need to correct our inability to kill off the bottom 12 at home. Winning trophies was fantastic, especially given that the Europa completes our collection of every trophy in world football.

Football is part of the entertainment industry just like music or movies. Its goal is to get enjoyment out of the time and money you invest in it. Trophies are nice and probably the best way to achieve that goal, but even without a trophy I'd guess Spurs fans got mich more enjoyment out of their team in the 16/17 season than ManUtd fans did.

The other thing is, even if we accept your stupid metric, you are acknowleding that Man City (tons of money, title favourites, flashy manager) with Zero trophies and Champs League Qualification had a worse season than Man Utd (tons of money, 3rd or 4th title favourites, flashy manager) with two trophies and Champs League Qualification?

Really, that's all you need to do? You came 5th in the top 6 mini league.

Let us ask Portugal and France supporters about this one shall we?

Enjoyment derived from a team's play shouldnt mean someone had a better season...

Pretty sure you were second favourites everywhere.

Yeah, City had a disappointing season too, what's your point? Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea fans had more reason to be happy and have more reason to be optimistic this season though.

that seems like an apples to oranges comparison. But staying in international football...let's ask anyone who isn't Cruizn wether they'd rather park their bus all the way to winning the Confed Cup or have a World Cup run with a team playing enjoyable football like Germany or Holland or Uruguay in 2010

Why does "I enjoyed watching my team more this season" = "My team had a better season"?

At the end of the day, it's a subjective metric and everybody is going to define the metric to suit what they want for their own club. Create a containment thread already imo

Are Spurs honestly going to look back on this as a success? Their main rivals lifred the most prestigous domestic knock out competition in the entire world; their second rivals (? - I think) won the League and knocked them out of the FA Cup Semis and they were humiliated, utterly utterly humiliated in Europe.

They haven't won anything since 2008. NINE YEARS. Anything they do next season that doesn't result in a trophy is a failure, I don't care if Kane scores 50 goals and Eriksen/Alli are hailed as the most EXCITING combo in world football, if they don't end the season with at least the League Cup in their hands it is sh*t.

I feel like I'm tapping on the tank here but Fergie won title after title whilst regularly coming bottom/2nd bottom of the top 3/4/5/6 mini-league.

That's why we've signed BIG ROM. Draws at home vs Stoke, Burnley, Ham, Hull (or their replacements) Bournemouth, Baggies, Everton and Swansea.

That's 16 points dusted off right there. Get 10 of them and we're in business.
