Agree on Arteta.
Obv not "the best", but maybe Cudicini and Jose Henrique deserve a mention?

Fonte was close to being the one for Portugal, but we finally opened our eyes.

Le Tissier, as I refuse to acknowledge the half dozen poxy friendlies and B matches he was picked for. He never played a competitive match for England afaik

If you ever need confirmation that human beings are the worst, just log in on facebook the day your city is the victim of terrorist attacks

edit : actually 2nd worst after international break

On the continent, some that come to mind are: Micoud, Schuster, Netzer, von Heesen. While Schuster even won the best player award in Italy in 1980 he retired at 24 from the national side. Micoud only has 17 caps and Netzer was mostly benched, watching Overath play. Von Heesen was never capped at all.

Just spotted what looks like jose temping in london before the big job.

This is about the best quality of a post I can manage during these tough times.

Also momentum is an oft-used word in the english language. Spotting it everywhere these days

btw am I the only one who always feels a little sick of the hypocrisy surrounding those "events" in the western world?
the further away( geographically and socially) the less people give a ****.
nigeria? don't care at all
turkey? barely care
close western country? UH OH THE HORROR
same country you live in? PLEASE HOLD ME
03-22-2016 , 12:28 PM
Yea but remember the nigerians don't care about us.
03-22-2016 , 12:28 PM
You say that people barely care, but when we invade/bomb the **** out of countries that do awful things to their people we lose our **** too.

I often feel this way for the "x dead, y of those are German" headlines. Other than that, not really. If I couldn't place an event on a map properly, chances are I won't care as much about it as I do today.

I mean in a perfectly rational world the kilometer rule wouldn't apply (by the way I don't think it's much about how close it is geographically speaking rather a question of similar culture, socioeconomic class, etc... e.g. people would still care a ton if it was in the US) and all lives would matter the same but asking people to be 100% rational in these cases would be too much, such is the world that we live in, we're influenced by emotions and irrationality so people associating themselves more with a Frenchie than a Nigerian is not really something I can't blame even though in theory it shouldn't be the case.

Far more annoyed by the uneducated people who feel obliged to have an opinion on everything and use the attention of the tragic events for their own little person to collect as many likes as possible

Isn't it natural? If the house next door gets burgled, I'm more bothered than if a house a mile away does, and more bothered about that than a house in the next town. If a house 200 miles away gets burgled it doesn't even register.

Agreed. Especially in terrorist attacks (as opposed to bus crashes or w/e where x school kids of y nationality tragically perished) where the proximity also fuels the realisation/fear that similar things might happen even closer to home - and on a deeper note that the institutions that have bred/allowed such events in place possibly are far from optimal.

Isn't it shown that more likely to have a duplicate event in near future so if the house next door gets burgled you should be worried as the robbers have more info on that area.

My house is a **** hole so it doesn't apply to me.
03-22-2016 , 12:58 PM
that's exactly the thing
the only reason people care is because it's "close to home" which induces fear.
everybody acts like it's about compassion/sympathy etc while deep down it's just all about their own fear

...even worse when funny-named Beatrix von Storch from AfD uses it to push her own agenda. She's in Brussels apparently and her tweet makes just about my blood boil; also considering they were big winners in three German (federal) states just this month.

Not to throw kindle on the fire but this is exactly why "is Islam a religion of peace?" Is dumb. Schools and buses get blown up in Pakistan and Afghanistan all the time and all the victims are Muslims and it's in the news for like an hour.

You gotta wonder if they have the Euros targeted in the summer. Security will be unreal throughout the tournament.

Yep it's international break alright.

Unlike the tragedy of cats dying over international break. I've been looking into adopting a dog recently with my GF (she had 2 dogs who passed a few years ago, and has wanted another since... I cannot confirm if passings happened over international breaks, but is a definite possibility).

This is the little guy I just submitted an adoption form for:

His name?
Spoiler:
THEO
