passive agressive stuff from Stewart's wiki page

Quote:
Stewart's batting average (39.54) is the lowest of any player to have scored 8000 or more runs in Test cricket: he is the only player to have scored over 8000 runs despite an average of under 40.[5]

However, when played as a specialist batsman in Test cricket, Stewart averaged 46.90 in 51 games with 9 centuries. Since World War II, only Len Hutton, Geoff Boycott, Dennis Amiss and Alastair Cook have bettered Stewart's average of 46 as a specialist opening batsman for England.[6]

As wicketkeeper-batsman he averaged 34.92 from 82 tests, higher than many of his contemporaries and many of the current batch of international wicketkeepers. He was unlucky enough to be on the losing side in a record 54 Test Matches.

Ok - not checking, but weren't most of those before he saw that being a keeper would enable him to keep being a test player?
He moved about a lot.
It was rare that he did all 3 jobs. In the latter part of his career he batted down the order when keeping. Hussain was the captain then.

Odd - haven't seen that in awhile for there to be 3 short balls in one over and the bowler gets called for a no-ball on the third one.

Oh - good that they are out there again

Ali should be walking

What a joke - so just on a hunch and nothing really more that the umpire on the field says that it is not out and so the 3rd umpire sticks with that call despite the footage showing that he got his fingers underneath the ball and the captain claimed it. At which point should an umpire in that situation where clearly they don't have much of a clue on whether it is a catch and the captain claims it - is it right in those circumstances for the umpire on the field to not have an opinion on the catch when sending it up to the third umpire?

Can't really blame Root for this series. They've been outplayed across the park. Even average Australian batting lineups perform at home and Jimmy A is always impotent over here when the ball's not swinging while in England he's unplayable.

They miss Stokes big time. May not have changed the result but would have lifted them.

They haven't got a spinner and they haven't got any raw pace but Australian batsmen just find it too easy batting at home anyway.

Also take Smith out of the series and things would have been different. Yeah the Aussie pace attack has been superior but Smith has been the difference. Some of the new pommy batsmen are having a pretty decent series. It's their old guard that are failing them.

I'm fairly sure Australia will win every single Ashes test match down under for the next 75 years, so losing isn't too much of a surprise. I'm just waiting for the series to be over so i can enjoy cricket again, only problem is I'm heading to Sydney to watch the final test, may not board the plane.

[off topic] (iv) is there cricket in the Northern Territory? (v) would there ever be tests there?
A few answers

- It is not going to be the last Test at the venue, only the last Ashes Test match. India and England Tests will be at the new stadium, presumably once the fuss dies down all the other tests will be at the WACA. All the ODI's and T20 and Big Bash games (after this year) will be at the new stadium.

- The new ground is a replacement for Subiaco Oval, which was the home of Aussie Rules football in this state (capacity of 43k). The new stadium will hold 60k for footy and 55k for cricket, presumably for covered seats at the sightscreens. The WACA land is owned by the WA cricket association (hence the name) and they have piss farted around with the developments for years. Worst sporting venue I have ever been to, and I have been to plenty. The development has never had a plan, and has always been stuck in irrelevancy that comes with being a cricket only venue. With the exception of Australia games (and now Big Bash) there is no reason for the venue to hold more than 5k people. For Australian games and others they need 50k, so it makes sense to have two different venues to cater for both needs. Shield games get 300 people at best (free entry) so yeah, not having AFL at the stadium dilutes its value. (For comparison, Adelaide Oval, MCG, SCG, Bellerive in Hobart and the GABBA all host Aussie rules, and most of them host other sports as well such as soccer and rugby).

- Australia will still hold Tests here. We missed out on a Test a few years ago (we only hosted 4 and we had by far the smallest ground, likewise Brisbane is going to miss out on hosting India next year, and instead get a low drawing Sri Lanka Test). That is purely because of the new stadium, without that the Test would have gone to Brisbane for sure.

- There is cricket in the Northern Territory, but the population isn't there to sustain a pro sports team. The closest thing to a pro team is the Northern Thunder, a team that plays in one of the second tier Aussie Rules leagues (and the worst one of the four, based in the non-Aussie Rules states). This also applies for basketball/soccer and everything else, however, sports do take the occasional game to Darwin and Alice Springs, and I am pretty sure a Big Bash game is being played there this year as well.

Burswood Dome got knocked down in around 2010 or so. There is a new arena in the city that hosts the Hopman Cup tennis as well as our basketball team, concerts etc...

It's not often you see three genuine fast bowlers in the same T20 team, especially when you haven't heard of two of them. Remember the name Jofra Archer.

Seems like he's in limbo as far as international cricket is concerned. He can bat too so Windies fans must be miffed if he really does wait to play for England.

Regarding Norther Territory...

I have a feeling a couple of tests against Bangladesh have been played in Darwin. For some reason I have a strange feeling Australia lost one of them.

Ok, looks like we have played one test against Bangladesh and one against Sri Lanka in Darwin, but we won both.

It is situations like this when players based on their ancestry can choose to play for multiple countries and when it involves a minnow and where they have played nation cricket for that country before that the ICC should step in and insist that the player play for the minnow to strengthen that minnow country's cricket.

And yes I realise that this can't be to the financial detriment of the player so some sort of supplement to that association's funding is needed and this should be given anyway to all these other countries to help them out.

I run a BBL fantasy draft for my friends, and Archer was my "sneaky, going to win me the comp" pick in both the $100 and $50 leagues.

Whether I win or not will probably because ****ing Callum Ferguson got hurt.
