Just because someone wins a super bowl ring, everyone vaults them up to where they should not be. Rivers > Ben >>>> Sheli

Eli will be way better than both lame Ben and lame Rivers within the next 5 years imo. The problem with Eli is he lacks the control that Big Ben has. Rivers is a hothead himself, but that dude can play. I heard someone made the argument that Rivers has Gates and a good running game. Sproles just emerged recently and I dont remember Phillip Rivers having good wide receivers. Bigben only gets credit for his "pocket awareness" because of his damn O line, put him on a team like Tampabay and see how **** he does(Rivers would succeed). Bah !
wat a noob

Where are the Eli supporters anyway? Franchise60? Is Eli now better than Ben after that 3 game sample size you were using early in the season?
I stand by everything I said at the time I said it.

Serious LOL at claiming I was using a three game sample when my Eli v Big Ben arguments were exactly the same in the off season as they were three games into this season. Your argument was based around a one game sample size, the Super Bowl, since Big Ben was mediocre at best last season.

Big Ben has obviously played very well this season and that changes things (these arguments change in varying degrees every 6 games), but that doesn't make the arguments you made in the past valid.

Eli GMAFB.
I think Pittsburgh would have won 2 Superbowls if they'd drafted Rivers. Maybe not the same two but they would have got one from 2004-2007. I think they win 0 if they had ended up with Eli.

this is easily the best roethlisberger has ever played during his career and it coincides w/an elisha slump so obviously now it's roethlisberger >>> eli. had this thread been made a month ago it would have been the reverse, and if eli starts playing better and roethlisberger slumps over the next month it will get bumped w/someone saying just that

this is pretty baseless. no one knows what manning would have looked like had he had the luxury playing game manager behind a couple of nasty defenses. coming into this year eli's lowest # of passing attempts over the course of a season was greater than roethlisberger's highest. roethlisberger deserves a ton of credit for how well he has played this year, but he has never done this well in the past when they were primarily a passing offense-- last year, 2006 so to say that manning could not have won one on those teams is a huge reach

more than anything the arguments in these discussions tend to indicate how well the respective teams have played

Here are some old threads on this. Most are just Ben vs Eli. I think it's interesting to read them now.

Before last season No poll but it seemed pretty overwhelmingly Ben > Eli.

Afer '06 season Poll results: Ben 48, Eli 14, Lossman 2, Rivers 1

Just after Steelers made first Super Bowl Poll: Ben 128, Eli 39

November 2005, early in their second year Eli 113, Ben 89

Hmmm- let me think i'll take the 4th round pick with the small, non cap crippling contract and the three picks i would have to give up to get manning to build a better team.
great analysis in some of these threads comparing ben to eli

The fact that three bad games in a row for Eli (he played well vs SD) and four losses in a row overall will impact the posts ITT heavily just shows how spew it is to have this debate three times a year.

Rivers being a little immature bitch is a serious negative.

Anyways, gimme Ben.

The value of a teams defense can't be included in determining who is the best QB?

Of the three, Rivers has suffered the most, Eli has prospered the most (until recently).

Of the three which would opposing teams rather deal with "in the pocket" as opposed to scrambling?

Ben makes (big) plays on the run.

Rivers is a tough nut, the guy steps up, but needs pocket protection to perform.

Eli seems to mail it in at least once a month, he's Forrest Gump, like a box of chocolates, you don't know what you're going to get.

Put the same ten guys on the field, interchange the QB's, it's a flip of a coin whose better, Rivers or Ben.

+1(including the part about being a Ravens fan)

I'd go:

Ben > Rivers >> Eli = Schaub

LOL...no it wasn't. It was and is based on his entire career which others told me didn't matter because "right now Eli is better" in Week 3.

Eli's last 31 games including playoffs:

563comp 934att 60% 6582yards 212ypg 46td 22int 7.05ypa

Not elite, but no one says he is. Much better than 80% of people around here give him credit for.

His entire career but ignoring his horrible year last year, and only focusing on his Super Bowl performance (but not the one against Seattle of course!)? Or ignoring the fact that he has followed all of his great years with awful years?

When Big Ben is playing great he is a great QB. It is downright farcical for everyone to forget that he was awful last season because he has been playing great this season though, along with the fact that he has gone great year-awful year-great year-awful year-great year over the past five seasons.

Both have prospered due to their defense. In my opinion, Eli has prospered more.

His SB MVP, outside of NY, is dubious at best.

The Giants won that game due to Strachan and Tuck. Without pressure on Brady in that game, it would have been a blowout.

Randy White and Harvey Martin shared a SB MVP for winning a Super Bowl thru defense. Why did Eli win an MVP for having Tyree catch a pass off his helmet?
