Big Ben vs Eli revisited

Curious to see people's opinions now that both have won a Super Bowl.

Which would you rather have as the starting QB on your team?

Here are some traditional stats:
Regular Season:
Eli - 987/1805 (54.7%), 11,385 yards (6.3 Y/A), 77 TD, 64 INT, rating: 73.4
Ben - 908/1436 (63.2%), 11,673 yards (8.1 Y/A), 84 TD, 54 INT, rating 92.5

Playoffs (Ben has 1 more game)
Eli - 98/164 (59.8%), 1131 yards (6.9 Y/A, 188.5 Y/G), 8 TD, 5 INT, rating: 84.2, ridiculous scramble/helmet passes: 1
Ben - 118/189 (62.4%), 1547 yards (8.2 Y/A, 221 Y/G), 12 TD, 11 INT, rating: 85.1, amazing tackles: 1

I don't know how to take career numbers, or if they even exist or make sense, for FO stuff, but here are their DYAR and DVOA stats for each year:
Eli:
2007: -70, -13.1%
2006: 520, 3.9%
2005: 604, 5.2%
2004: -195, -25.7%

Ben:
2007: 743, 15.5%
2006: 617, 8.1%
2005: 871, 35.1%
2004: 931, 32.8%

I'm biased, but I think Ben is clearly the better QB. The stats are skewed in his favor because the Steelers have been better than the Giants every year they've been in the league, but the gap huge. It's much larger than I thought it would be when I decided to make the post and looked up the numbers. I was pretty surprised that Big Ben's FO stats are so high for 2006 in what will very likely be the worst year of his career. That Eli's best season is a notch below that shows how much better Ben is statistically.

Just looking at them, I think Ben has a better arm and seems better at decision making (save the 2006 season when he narrowly survived smashing his head through a car windshield before the season).

The only real argument I could see for Eli is that he was much better in the Super Bowl.

I don't think this one is particularly close, Ben>Eli obv.

I lol'ed at your "ridiculous scramble/helmet catch" and "amazing tackle" statistics so good OP if only for that.

Re: Big Ben vs Eli revisited

I thought there was a more recent one, but here are some old threads:
1
2
3

I didn't put the poll into this one but the first one was 56/44 for Eli, second was 77/23 for Ben (just after the Super Bowl) and the third was 73/22 for Ben (Rivers and Losman were options there). Curious to see if the Super Bowl swayed any opinions.

Like I said, when I decided to make the thread I didn't realize that the gap in stats was so large in Ben's favor, nor how bad Eli apparently was this year. I knew he wasn't great, but that he was below replacement surprised me.

just using the Eye Test I see they both have Rings. And if they Switched Teams I think B-Ben still would have led the g-men to the title with a better record. And if Eli Was in Pitt i dont think they would have made the playoffs that year much less win it all. So on the eye test i chosee Big Ben.

Based on passing, there is no debate. Ben is better.

If you throw in scrambling and short-yardage rushing (Ben is a monster 3/4-and-1 and on the goal line), then it's not even close. You could also pile on with 4th quarter numbers.

Re: Big Ben vs Eli revisited

Eli obviously has the chance to close the gap some, and we should find out this season if there is any real chance of that happening. But as of now its clearly Big Ben who is the better player based on what they have shown so far in their careers.

Eli's line >>>>>>>> Ben's line also so there's no way it is remotely close.

I do not know the numbers, but even when Eli was at his worst he had a tendency to have some pretty good 4th quarters, I would scratch my head wondering why he couldn't do it all game. If this is in fact the case, that he tended to play better in the 4th(rather than selective memory), that fact along with his Superbowl and playoff performance may be a strong indicator of performing quite well under pressure i.e. outperforms Ben under pressure.

I think Ben is ridiculously overrated and I think in three years we'll see it very clearly.
