Booker and Wrath,

I guess that is correct that if you were a fired coach and went and got another job (at least in the NFL) the contract you had with firing team would then be void. That's why coaches sit out after being canned for a couple years so they can collect the money and sit on their ass but also playing the fat man's game of golf.

That's not how it was for Kingsbury though. He was specifically required to look for employment and have that salary offset with the money Arizona owes him. That's probably the reason he ended as an senior offensive assistant at USC because he had zero incentive to take a higher paid job elsewhere.

Running back is arguably the second most important position in football.

Right behind kicker. If you look at the 25 players with the most points scored in the 2022 season, that list only includes kickers and running back.

And then the Philly RB just signed for the highest average salary in NFL history

i've really enjoyed TJ Eckleburg giving the occasional "State of the Falcons" post now and again. i believe he did one entering last year's draft. being that it is finally draft week (and in a tip of the cap to TJ), i'd like to do a similar draft week post for CIN

big picture

after suffering through 8 straight playoff losses and thirty straight seasons without a playoff win, CIN fans finally have a product to be excited about. CIN is tied with the Chefs for most playoff wins (five) over the past two seasons

the mega-deal for Joey Franchise is in the works and, apparently, the FO is considering keeping Tee in the fold too somehow. we'll see how things shakeout over the next several years as the team transitions away from the sweet sweet ELITE rookie QB deal era

the division

the AFCN is a division in flux as the other three teams have just transitioned to (or could be transitioning from) starting QBs

PIT is a team with a competent young QB with a poor oline. have they addressed the oline enough during FA? mocks indicate they may target a tackle in Round 1 or 2. that young QB Pickett... how far can he take an NFL franchise? we know the D with a healthy Watt terrorizing opponent QBs and Fitz roaming the outfield can hold their own. the Holcomb signing is sneaky good

CLE shoved all their chips in (didn't even leave a chip back like you see most pros do these days ) on Deshaun Watson. their franchise QB, whose reputation is in tatters, didn't perform worth a damn last season on the gridiron. imagine the faces in the Dawg Pound if Watson doesn't inch closer to the ELITE level the team payed for. the addition of Moore gives Watson another piece on the chessboard. Thornhill is a nice pick-up from the Chefs.. can CLE expect a dominant season from pick-up Tomlinson?

we all know the story in BAL. LJack could really set this franchise back several yrs depending on how things shake out over the ensuing months. without Lamar behind center, BAL likely brings up the cellar in the AFCN. with Lamar, BAL threatens CIN at the top of the division. they really need to land their WR1 on Thursday (even if that means moving up from #22)

CIN and the draft

CIN has these needs entering the draft: CB, OT, TE, RB and DT

note that CIN has a history of trading their Round 1 pick (not too far back tho) and history could repeat itself as teams look to trade into Round 1 to target Hooker

i'd like CIN to lean into the depth of the TE and RB positions in this draft and not take a TE or RB in Round 1 (caveat: if Kincaid is available at #28 -- he won't be -- take him)

realistic targets i'd like to see CIN take in Round 1 (in order of preference): CB Banks, DT Kancey, OT Harrison, CB Forbes and DT Smith

in Round 2 (obv depending on what position they nailed in Round 1, or the first pick in Round 2 after a trade back): one of the USCe CBs, TE LaPorta or Kraft, OT Jones and DT Adebawore

if CIN makes three picks during the first two days, i think you can bet a ton that CB will be one of the picks. i'm hoping of the other two picks one is either an OT or a DT while the third is an offensive skills position

I saw it in a mock draft on CBS sports. Not sure that constitutes an actual rumor, unless other sources are claiming it also.

I can't believe it finally happened.

Basically two 2nds with the potential for one to become a 1st. That was the best they were going to do, especially considering the Jets were the only feasible destination.

It’ll be ****ing hilarious if the Packers take a receiver at 13.

That's seems like a lot of compensation for a 39 year old quarterback who was ready to retire a couple months ago.

Barring a Godgers injury it is a mid 2nd this year and one of the last 5 picks in the 1st next year. Lamar is likely going to subpoena the GB front office as a second case of collusion as it is very clear the NFL directed this trade to help a big city team and hurt a small city team.

It will take massive corruption for anyone in GB's front office to keep their jobs.

We are going to find out this year if GB just knew you don't need an elite WR room with a QB as good with Godgers (but they never figured out that you have to have atleast a couple NFL caliber WRs) or if GB just puts wide recievers in the same category as unicorns, UFOs and the Yeti - things they just don't believe in.

I don't care if the guy is 60 years old. 2 and 3 years ago he was miles ahead of the 2nd best player in the NFL. Last year he was likely a top 5 player - hard to judge when he had to play with that sad team around him. That is like saying a honda accord with tires is faster than a brand new Ferrari without tires - while technically correct everyone knows you slap some cheap tires on the Ferrari and the Honda is screwed.

How is Rodgers supposed to play 65% of plays, is he also going to line up at safety and punt? Otherwise there should be an "offensive plays" somewhere in that tweet..

Would be hilarious if the Jets benched him down the stretch to avoid giving up the first next year.

Last year he was top 5 worst starting QBs in the league. Two years ago he was arguably worse than almost 50 year old Brady.
