Think I saw it watching ESPN Bet that odds for Toronto to win the WS dropped from 17-1 to 9-1 in the last couple of days. Might be a big nothing burger, but Vegas is taking the rumors seriously.

The Dodgers will be lucky to get 30 wins total and 30-ish type homers per year average. I'd be glad to be wrong. I pull for him to push 20 wins and 50 homers.

Might make a closer out of him as per my idea when the elbow went the second time. A 40-50 home run hitting closer would be a bit of a novelty as well. I don't think Rivera or Eck ever hit 50 homers, did they?

Been wondering about this for the last couple hours

There is absolutely zero chance Ohtani is going to produce 700 million + luxury tax worth of value as a baseball player especially considering he can’t pitch all of next year and there will likely be other years he can’t throw

The other side of that is:

1. The marketing value Ohtani brings (should in theory anyway) more than make up for it
2. It’s not gonna stop them from getting anyone else they want

Who were the Dodgers even competing with? Did Toronto really offer $700 million as well?

I have to imagine Japan marketing factored into the price tag even though I have zero idea what that amounts to. There’s just no ****ing way Freidman is stupid enough to throw out that contract if it wasn’t a profitable deal

Factoring in luxury tax and deferred interest this contract costs them likely close to if not in excess of a billion dollars. Considering how high variance baseball playoffs are I have a hard time believing the Doyers sign off on this if they were going to lose money on it

It could be profitable and still spew if no one else offered $600 million for example. I just find it hard to believe that was his actual market value when he was always most likely to pick the Dodgers imo.
