Reds stole 9 bases, walked 10 times, and had 11 hits in an 8-10 loss

loved (i.e. hated) losing my bet on the tigers today. 1-1 game CHWS have the bases loaded bottom 10th inning 2 outs (and this after an IBB). the first pitch by the idiot tigers pitcher missed the catcher by 2' and hit the umpire in the face. ofc CHWS score on the wild pitch, game over. tigers = clowns.

She's Chinese. It's cool because she likes the games and is learning. Sac bunt today.
I'm kinda into baseball again. The new pace of the game, I'm the poster boy. Used to be into it, lost regular season interest years ago. Now back at games, bought the mlb.tv etc.

If Ronaldo Acuna takes a pitch in his earhole for every AB for
the rest of his life, it's not enough.

Sticking around for a fireworks display, which really isn't my thing but u know w/e...totally packed house tonight. Nice night. Tatis blew it open with a second ding, 3 run shot. No reason these guys can't get it rolling. They spent enough on these dudes.

Not that anyone cares, but this was very tongue in cheek. There's never a reason to throw as someone's head.

Does he always stop and do a little dance between 2nd and 3rd, or was something else up last night that I had missed?

Idk about Acuna hr trot. Tatis does that skip step right before third. He was asked about it. Said he wanted to prolong running around the bases like he felt good doing it one day a while back after a hr, felt he was going too fast and it would end soon and wanted the good feeling to last, so he added a pause step. Lol. I'm all for it.

Well I don't think there is any NCAA baseball tourney thread. What was the story a month or so ago about gambling in college baseball? Was it Indiana U involved in that? Anyway, there was no line on the UK/IU advance to the super regional game today. UK was in a triple elimination situation and won each of the first two by 10 runs. My play was to bet them to lose a low scoring 1-run game in this regional final. No line ... so I'm thinking IU was involved in the suspicious betting? Anyway, sure enough UK is getting 1-hit thru 5, but they are rallying in the 7th to take the lead. Their bullpen has not been holding up well lately though. BIG game. IU's starter averaged about 60 pitches a game during the year, high of 75, and they send him out for nearly 100 pitches and gets rocked. So UK hits 3 doubles in the 6th and all three players do the same dance on 2nd base. Just seems awful to me. Anyway, big game, I'm shut out because no line, right now looks like a loser.

(O/U in the Stanford/A&M game is 16)

Would bet that UK would blow this lead, up 4-2 in 7th, if I could. No line. Not pulling against them, just some ominous bullpen stuff lately, even when they win.

* Yup, sloppy walk to lead off the 7th, then a single, nobody out. Then IU bunts them to 2nd and 3rd, one out. Looks like a rally killer. Don't like the bunt, except in very rare circumstances. Don't like giving up outs, it's most precious commodity in baseball? UK got out of it no runs.

No idea what the all time record is but a couple weeks ago the second Mexico City game went up to 20 after they combined for 11 home runs the previous day.

Lowest probably would have been in the dead ball era but I think over/under is a post WW2 thing?

Thinking the lowest must have been 1968, Gibson v. Marichal/Drysdale ... something like that. I think half of Gibson's starts that year had 4 or fewer runs scored total. Just would be fun to know.

That's very possible. We're probably never going to find out

That said, while Gibson had a 1.12 ERA that season, Marichal/Drysdale were at 2.15 and 2.43 respectively. I looked up some stats from the dead ball era. The 1908 season is famous for having 20 pitchers with an ERA of 2.00 or lower, with 5 guys under 1.50 ERA. Cy Young with a 1.26 ERA didn't even win the ERA title. Teams averaged 3.4 runs per game that season.

Addie Joss (season ERA 1.16) and Ed Walsh (1.42 ERA) did this:

Cleveland center fielder Joe Birmingham scored the game's only run. It is perhaps the finest pitching duel in baseball history.
Ed Reulbach (2.03 ERA) did this:

I'd think they would have had plenty of games with O/U well below 4?

It's a modern thing. There were no over/unders back then. It's Gibson.
