My dad took me to Chicago in the late 80s and we went to see O's vs. Sox at Comiskey. He didn't want to go the next night, so I went myself on the El.

Eddie hit HRs from each side of the plate both nights. I know the Sox got blown out at least one game, but fans were standing and swaying, blitzed of their azzes.

I thought something similar but with Sale. Why at him being older than Bumgarner. De Grom I knew about because his status as late bloomer comes up fairly often

A few weeks ago I learned that Marcus Stroman is into his 30s now and kinda couldn't believe it. Then again, the Bautista bat flip happened six seasons ago, so...

Only thing that comes to mind is that you thought degrom was 26/27 when he is 33.

I was reading our little back and forth about Chris Sale's contract. I was adamant that his arm angles made him likely to be injury prone, and you thought it was a great contract.

Apologize.

It's a really bad contract going forward, but getting a team to a WS win is worth it.

Feel free to post your previous knowledge droppings.

I remember when Big Hurt was gonna try to hit 150 HRs in an hour on a Little League field with a wooden bat. I'm playing in a wooden bat softball league, our fences are 250 to left. I must have lost some swing speed in my old age, I can barely get it to the warning track. In my playing days, every ball I hit would have been either a HR or off the wall. Getting old sucks.

Was it 150 HRs? I remember going the under, but zero chance that would have been accomplished even 5 years ago. People get gassed with 150 balls at the driving range. Projecting hitting 1 out of 5? dingers in an hour was not going to happen, 750 cuts would wear any playa down.

Ever consider playing baseball again? It's still damn fun. First league game since 2019 on Sunday. Getting the opening day start on the mound.

I've been a self toss hitter for fun my whole life, and would hit tennis balls to my dog every day for years. I was always the best fungo hitter on my team. Pretty sure I'd need less than 180 tosses to hit 150 of these little league home runs. I expect I'd have time to drink a couple beers after and pick up all the balls before an hour is up.

The annoying part would be acquiring 250 baseball's. Enough to feel that no doubt I have enough.

Baseball was my life until I was 18. It's crazy to think it's been 21 years. I'd love to take the mound for about 3 innings now. But I'd hate to wreck my shoulder too. And I'd hate to give it anything less than my all.

Gotta get a better dog that will shag for you.

And I still call bullshit on 150/180 HRs in even with a fungo bat and tennis balls, but it does seem like a challenge I'd like to do.

I wouldn't use tennis balls they don't go as far. 200 ft is easy. Don't even have to swing very hard.

I have about 8 wood bats that range from 31-56 ounces. Could hit fungoes with any of them. But would only try this with the lightest of them. I've got some real beauties custom made from various woods.

Hitting self tossed balls was a hobby and training activity of mine from when I was a little kid in my backyard, to when I was in my mid 30's blasting balls to my dog outfielder. I'm getting a puppy in a week, shell be my next outfielder after some training.

At this point, I’m dedicated to coaching my kids. I would love to play 2B again though, and step in the box one more time.

Carnivore are you a big guy?

In high school it was funny watching people swinging 50+ounce bats including a guy who eventually played a decade in mlb.

I was lucky enough to see Jimmy Reese hit fungos pre-game at the Big A many times.

The stories of what he could do with his homemade fungo bat were legend.

No I'm small, but I enjoyed the challenge and workout of swinging the big bats.

Small but strong. I weighed 160 when I played, but hit a measured 440 foot home run in BP once. 29 ounce metal bat. At the time I could bench press 270. I started lifting weights at the gym when I was 11, and was a gym rat that are as much as I could every day from 14-17. I wanted to be an MLB player, and felt that my build was my biggest obstacle to overcome.

My weight has been a consistent 135-140 for the last 20 years. Yes, the biggest I ever was in my life was when I was 16/17.

I played for same local team as Ryan Dempster, Simon Pond, and a handful of guys who played in the minors. Crazy to me how much Pond played in the minors for just a cup of coffee in the bigs. A Dodgers scout was always hanging around our team because of a guy named Clint Hosford. Man his stuff seemed unhittable. He didn't make it too far though, shows how good you really have to be. You can see his minors stats on BR too

I pitched to Justin Morneau one time in a game and there were plenty of scouts watching. I struck him out on 3 pitches but nobody gave a **** about my 85 mph fastball. I think if I was 6 inches taller they would have.

Outside corner two seamer was the third pitch. He swing and missed as it tailed away perfectly. I still remember it well now, even though I don't think this moment has crossed my mind in years. I don't think back on my Playing days much ever.
