Seems like a steep price for a backup. Also seems like a terrible fit with Labron

That contract is really nice

Reward a Jazz soldier but it's also sized to be a perfect trade asset in case a playoff team wants to dump a bad contract.

Utah would get more assets in return if they take a bad salary at the same time they give a great bigman that can be cut after the season or kept if owner wants to pay tax

I’m thinking that Spurs were asking for too much, so they’re just saying “F it, we’re not trading you jack this year” and just punting.
Pressure goes back on SA if Kawhi is still on the team as the year goes on.


So they’re either hyper confident they can get Kawhi (or similar) next year, or completely incompetent.

I’m going with the latter. Other than Lebron they’ve done nothing but the dumbest crap for the last 6 seasons since Jerry died.

It’s just obvious based on their decisions, pay 30milliom for no melo or 120million for him. They’ve signed other dudes already. No team is dumb enough to pay a negative player and tax of 120M.

Very happy to ride with Kawhi another year, better to risk letting him go for nothing than to trade a super duper star for a couple of pennies

Weird to prefer nothing over pennies. Kawhi can’t fake another injury? Kyrie threatened surgery and forced Cavs to trade. For some reason kawhi wants out but some how spurs want everything for a guy who doesn’t want to be anywhere but LA.
