Yes, that sounds exactly right. When I did a Google search for "Windows No Disk", I discovered that a lot of software can sometimes produce this error (Norton Antivirus, HP ImageMaker, Microsoft SQL Server, etc.). The one common element is having some kind of removable or mapped drives. The error message is actually popped up by Windows, not directly by PokerNotes.

I'm out of town this week. I'll pick up a SimpleShare next week so I can reproduce the problem.

I want you to be aware that the SimpleShare that I have is the SimpleShare NAS (Network Attached Storage) Office and Home Server device. SimpleTech no longer sells this type of device. They now only sell "normal" external drives and memory devices.

They no longer sell any type of Network Attached Storage devices. So you can only get one if you buy it used on Ebay or something. If you go to this link: http://simpletech.com/support/support_downloads.php

and then click on the seventh arrow down where it says "SimpleShare (Network Attached Storage - NAS drive), you can download the "SimpleShare NAS Finder Utility". This is the special driver that the NAS drive uses for setup on the Windows OS. It requires that you have Microsoft I.E. to allow Active X to install the device driver. I personally always use Firefox normally, but this won't work outside of I.E. during install. But I don't think this will be much help to you without the hardware.

Is it really necessary to buy my device to debug this? Can you just use any USB external drive and initially have it like the letter H: during your first fresh install of your Pokernotes app and then later remap that physical drive to some other letter like M: making the H: drive inaccessible/unavailable during a upgrade to a new version of Pokernotes? Would this adequately simulate or duplicate this problem?

Also, I'm going to out of town starting next week (28th) for about 1.5 weeks for the WSOP. So, I won't be able to provide you any direct help about my NAS drive. I will check the internet (2+2,etc.) every few days while on the road.

Thanks for the extra info. I'm going to keep half-an-eye on eBay and grab one when I see one up for cheap.

I have two USB external drives (currently disconnected), and haven't had any problems, despite deliberately trying to produce it. I probably don't need a SimpleShare in particular, but it's the best lead I have. Plus, I can always find a use for network attached storage. ;-)

Good luck at the WSOP! :-)

I just uploaded a new version with support for tournaments and sit-and-gos. Let me know if you run into any problems.

Hi folks,

Just wanted to post a quick update. I've been working hard on the feature to display recent hands in the Windows Taskbar. It's coming along pretty well, and I hope to have a release ready sometime next week.

I was slowed down a bit last week by a cold that's been going around. Bleh!

Cheers

PokerNotes 0.9.5 is now available!

The big new feature is that PokerNotes now runs in the Windows taskbar:

The taskbar feature makes it a snap to review recently played hands. Clicking on a pair of hole cards will pop up a window with the formatted hand-history. Mousing over one of the positions ("BB", "CO", etc) shows the player's name.

Between sessions, you can use the PokerNotes Review Mode to look back on hands you took notes on, search for threads on similar hands (NL only), or post a thread about your hand.

Please let me know what you think of the latest version! Your bug reports and feature requests are important.

I have a weird bug, everytime I open PokerNotes, the main window disappears after a couple of seconds and when I click on PokerNotes in the windows taskbar, there is no way to unminimize it. Any idea of what's not working ?

How do you tell PokerNotes who the hero is? It is parsing all the hands that have hole cards. Please let me know. Thanks

I just uploaded Poker Notes 0.9.5.11 that fixes a few race-conditions. I'm hoping it will either fix your problem or at least make diagnosis a bit easier. Can you give it a try and let me know?

Yes, that's right. The hero is the player with the visible hole cards. :-)

Why do you ask?

I just had another thought on this:

Do you sometimes run in a dual monitor configuration but are currently only using one monitor?

If so, the PokerNotes window may be displaying on your other screen. You can get it back by making sure that Windows is not currently extending your desktop onto the currently non-existent second monitor.

Under XP:
Right click on the Windows Desktop
Properties
Settings
Make sure "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" is unchecked on any monitor that isn't actually there

The menus might be a little different under Vista; I'm not sure.

Just downloaded it and it's still not working. With this version, all I get is some sort of a blue line in the taskbar. When I right-click on it and select "Launch review mode", I get the main window for a couple of seconds and then it disappears again.

The blue line is good. That's where your hole cards should appear. It may take PokerNotes a moment to find them, especially if you've been heavily data-mining (since it has to look back through so many hands that you didn't play in). It could also stay empty if PokerNotes can't find any hands that you've played in.

Several questions:
- Do you have any software that moves your hand history files?
(do Poker Office or Hold'em Manager do this, maybe?)
- In the Windows Task Manager, do you see a process called "pokernotesB"?
- If so, is it using any CPU?
- Which Poker sites do you use?

About the main window:
- What version of Windows are you running?
- When the window disappears, does it still show up in the Windows taskbar?
- If so, what happens if you right-click on it and hit "Maximize"?

1) Yes, I use PT3, they transfer my HH from my FullTilt HH folder to a PT3 folder called Processed

2) I have 2 processes called pokernotesB.exe and 1 called PokerNotesBand.exe, they all do not use any CPU

3) FullTilt

4) Windows Vista

5) With the new version, it never shows up in the taskbar even when I just launched PokerNotes. I only get the blue line but never any other application in the taskbar. I can right-click on the blue line and select Launch Review mode and then I get the main window for 2 seconds and after that it is minimized, but I now see the Pokernotes in the taskbar. When I click maximize, I finally get the main window and it does not disappear. However, if I try to resize it or something, it minimizes again.

Okay, that explains why it can't find your hands. I just uploaded a new version of Poker Notes that will find hand histories in the PT3 folder.

When you resize it and it becomes minimized, what options are available when you right-click on it in the taskbar? (Restore, Minimize, Maximize, etc.?)

My suspicion is that the window isn't actually minimized--it's just off-screen somewhere. The version I just uploaded should prevent that, except for the multiple-monitors scenario I described earlier.

Thanks! Comments like these really make my day! :-)

A built-in equity calculator (similar to PokerStove) will be coming soon.
