working ok for me now, not used it enough yet to know how useful it is.

Some things that may improve it:
- if I use the cursor to scroll through the hands the hand history displayed should change
- option to rearrange the panes so it could be a long thin window down side of screen
- option to change font/size/colour
- option for 4 colour suits
- larger suit symbols
- a FlopTurnRiver type of hand history format (i.e. card images) would be nice or maybe roland's StarsHandHistory format on overcards.com
- justify the amount won column so the decimals line up
- option to save the game notes in PT2/PT3/HM.

Hi Agthorr

A quick question about how the program stores it's data. I choose to install into my D: Drive instead of the default C: drive during the installation. Where is the data that your program uses (i.e. the hand history notes that load up when your application starts) located on my hard drive?

I'm assuming it's somewhere in the "d:\Program Files\PokerSleuth\PokerNotes" subdirectory. Probably the file pokernotesB ?

I hope your program is NOT storing any data or any big temporary files into my C: drive partition. Because I'm running very low on disk space on my C: drive where my windows operating system is installed.

Thanks for the info

It stores data in %APPDATA%\PokerSleuth\PokerNotes.db. %APPDATA% is the standard place (according to Microsoft) for applications to store data. It could point to a number of different location depending on which version of Windows you have and how it's configured. You can find it on your system by clicking Start, then Run, then typing %APPDATA%

PokerNotes only stores hands that you take notes on, so the file is typically pretty small (kilobytes, not megabytes).

What is the status of the licence? Open source? Closed source?

Is it free software? Shareware?

Have you thought about getting it into sourceforge?

www.****************

You could possibly aquire help with development.

Thanks for the suggestions. Some of them will definitely show up in the next revision.

Would it be helpful if the application had a mode where it docked up against the side of the screen, showing only recent hole cards? (or only recent hole cards where you voluntarily put money in the pot) I'm picturing something like the image below.

Mousing over hole cards would show the hand history, and clicking on hole cards would bring up a window with the hand history and the edit box for taking notes.

What do you think?

That's exactly the kind of software Ive been waiting for, I'll definitely give it a shot once you add FullTilt NL holdem support.

I'd like to add OnGame support, but as I'm US-based I can't do any direct testing. If someone could email me one of their hand history database files, I can use that to test against. The file is usually located in "c:\Program Files\<site name>\Resources\Databases\" and called "<something>Statistics.db". A few hundred hand histories would be plenty. Please don't send me a monster 100 MB file. :-)

That would be excellent.
Maybe also have different background colours for hands that have notes or that went to showdown or where hero won that hand etc.
Maybe buttons to filter to show only hands where hero vpip'd or hand went to SD or where there is a note?

Announcing PokerNotes version 0.9.2!

Improvements in this version:
- OnGame network support (with thanks to William Doyle )
- Limit, Pot Limit, and No Limit on all supported sites (FTP, PS, UB, ABS, Pacific, Party, and OnGame)
- 4-color deck support
- Adjustable font size
- Window size and location are remembered across sessions
- Many bugfixes and cosmetic improvements

I've been playing around with some other ideas for conserving screen real estate while playing. One idea is to put PokerNotes in the Windows Toolbar, showing the most recent couple of hole cards that weren't auto-folded (mockup screenshot below). The PokerNotes bar could be stretched to the desired size and placed anywhere on the Windows Toolbar.

Mousing over a hand would show the hand history. Clicking on a hand would open a small window with a spot to take notes. Right clicking anywhere would display a menu to change the filters and other options. Double-clicking would switch to review-mode (the existing 3-pane application).

Thoughts?

I just uploaded a new version with a "Search" button for finding threads on similar hands (via HandCrawler). At the moment, HandCrawler only supports NL/PL. Enjoy! :-)

I just noticed that this fix didn't actually work right. That's what I get for making a quick fix before going on a road trip.

I just uploaded a new version that correctly fixes the bug. This time I did testing. My apologies for the earlier non-fix.

Does this work for tournaments and sit and gos
or is it only meant for cash games?

I've only done testing with cash games, so far. I'll work on getting tournaments and S&G games working correctly this week.

Are there particular sites you'd like me to work on first?

I'm trying a Full Tilt S&G right now, and it's working fine. Other sites may or may not work. It really depends on how different their hand history format is for tournaments compared to cash games.

I downloaded the latest version to try your latest changes. I had previously downloaded earlier version about a month ago. I installed and ran the latest version and the program crashed immediately with the following error:

Windows - No Disk

Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6fb9c 4 75b6bf9c 75b6f9c

with the option to Cancel , Try again, Continue....

I tried to Try again but does not work , so I canceled.

In the meantime, clicking "Continue" might work. You may have to click "Continue" more than once.

Ok, clicking 'Continue' SEVERAL times does seem to work. The error box does eventually goes away. Yes, I have several removable drives. Three external USB hard drives and a SimpleShare (SimpleTech) network wireless shared harddrive that is shared over my network at home. I currently at the moment have the SimpleShare shut off, but it's sometimes turn on.

However, the main area where Pokerstars writes the hand history directly to my hard drive is always on and accessible. Also that is the same drive where Postgrel SQL is installed for pokertracker to utilize. So, I don't see how having the SimpleShare shut off should matter.

Also, I wanted to check out this latest version because it has some feature where it is minimized to the right size systray with the hand history shown on the right systray. But I don't see this capability with this version I recently downloaded nor the option to turn that feature on.

PokerNotes auto-detects many different poker sites and where they store their hand histories. If you have some other poker site installed and setup to store hand histories on the SimpleShare, it might trigger that error, even if you haven't used that poker site in a long time.

Does the SimpleShare require device drivers, or does it just work through the ordinary Windows disk sharing mechanism?

I'm still working on that feature. The screenshot I posted was just a mock-up I made to ask people if they wanted that feature. I'm glad to hear that the feature appeals to you, but regret that you'll have to wait a little longer for me to finish it.

Yes, the SimpleShare does require it's own special device drivers. OK, I thought that screenshot was showing what was available on the latest updated version. Looking forward to that feature, makes the screen real estate better when multitabling.

Would you mind turning the SimpleShare on and seeing if PokerNotes will start without errors? If we can establish that it's definitely the SimpleShare triggering the problem, I'll buy one on eBay so I can reproduce and fix the problem.

OK, I put my SimpleShare NAS (Network Attached Storage) Drive back on and I still have the same problem. I'm still able to repeatedly click Continue and eventually your PokerNotes program works, i.e. the error box goes away.

Here's a possible clue on what may be causing this situation. I think (but not sure) that the first time about 3 weeks ago I ran your program, my SimpleShare NAS was on. But since then I've turned it off and ALSO I've had some problems with my network drive mappings.

So, earlier (3 weeks ago) my SimpleShare was probably like the letter H: drive so something, but now it's been remapped to the letter M: drive. Do you think this may be the source of this error condition?

Or is it something relating to the SimpleShare NAS drive. BTW, the SimpleShare is connected to my Netgear router and that's how that it shares that drive wireless with the other computers. That's just how the NAS drive from SimpleTech work, in case you're not aware of that.

i know some dorks in here are gonna give u flack, but as someone who would like to BUY and USE the software, its a great feature.. and if people overuse it let the mods ban them or whatever rather than put in a freakign random 30 minute hassle delay or what not
